View Full Version : A new section for tech tips

I've noticed Fou has lately been adding some most excellent tips on fixing problem areas on our cars, such as 'how to remove the antenna', 'fuel pumps', 'oil leaks' and more. There is a lot of really good info there, but it is currently hidden in the Members Marketplace of the Classified section. I wouldn't normally think to look there for tips and such. Now if there was a section called 'Tech Tips', I'd be spending lots of time going back there, and I might even be able to contribute some small bit of info myself. Just a thought.

Another thought. Rather than having a long multi-page thread where everyone is adding their 2 cents worth, and some irrelevant comments, it could be continually edited/appended by the original poster if any new info is contributed.

Whaddaya think?!?!

Sounds like a great idea! Like a HOW-TO section... no replies.. just entries on how to do stuff..

A quick and easy way to find solutions & mod instructions.

I agree with a 'tech and tips' section. Anything to do with our cars can go in the Stealth/3000 forum, but for specific info and "how-to's", there should be a seperate area.

I know you said you get faster answers in the Stealth/3000 area because there are more people in it, but there doesnt need to be answers in a tech section. Also when newcomers come in, and ask "how do i do this?" or "where do i find information on..." we can just point them at the tech section and it will have original threads by members and links to other sites with good information.

I don't know man, we'd have too many forums. If i add that, then people are request more forums, then it's just gona turn into a forum that's impossible to browse, kind of like 3Si.

I'll see, let me think about it. I'll let you guys know.

I like Tits and teets. That way we could really milk it.....:D

Crazey, I understand your concern about having too many forums, but if we restrict the ownership of a thread to just the originator so that we don't get multiple responses, I think it would be manageable. For example Fou would be the originator of the antenna tips thread. If anyone has info to add, or other suggestions, they'd email/PM Fou with their thoughts, and he could update it. You want concise information in one place. If it spans 3 or 4 pages with multiple people commenting, then it will become cumbersome and useless. Now I don't know if you can restrict a thread that way, but it's a thought.

I like 'Tips & Tech'.

How about... "Tips, Tits, and Tech" and make it mandatory to accompany any thread with a photo :)

I can see that this is already going slightly astray. My original idea was to have 1 single entry for each thread that contained all the information required to fix something, and have the originator edit and append it as necessary. If each thread starts having multiple replies, then the whole forum becomes redundant.
Exactly like Crazey said he didn't want to have happen.
What I think we need is a place that has one concise write-up on how to correct or diagnose a problem. And let's leave it at that.

Crazey, is there any way that this forum can be restricted in that way?

No, not unless i do all the poasting nd lock he threads, or just go one by one locking threads. It'll be fine though. Replies aren't that bad, as long as tehy're not conversations.

I think you still need to allow for people to ask questions about a proceedure. If you allow responses, it might help to clear up some confusing instructions.
just as long as they are on track.

Perhaps Snortin93 should be made the moderator for the Tips section.. he'll keep things in line!

I'd be willing to do it, providing it's in line with the direction that this board wants to go in.

The problem that I see with multiple replies, is that if it gets to be 6 or 7 pages of replies, then it won't hold people's interest long enough, and some vital point might get missed. Take Fou's fuel pump mod that he recently posted. Allow people to ask questions, but then have the moderator integrate the questions and answers as 1 concise definitive post. It will take more work, but all you ever wanted to know about fuel pumps could be contained in 1 spot. It's just my opinion, and I'm willing to be talked into and out of almost anything... :D
