View Full Version : Changing a display color on a boost controller
Ok here is my question...How hard is it to change for a example the green color of a blitsz dsbc display to lets say blue or orange?
If it's an LED or just a plain bulb I don't see why u can't just sauder/replace em with a diff collor. Anybody ever try this?

heh i NEED a boost controller! how much did you pay for yours? and if color change is possible i would want red.
Well I dont have the dsbc yet... I have an mbc for now.
But you can get them for about 680-860 canadian dollars. Any local shop can get it for you.
You can get em at dynamic racing too.
for about 685 canadian, but thats without shipping and border fees which should be about 30-50 dollars.

ok I just found out it's not hard at all. I talked to a friend with a heavily modded golf who's changed just about every little light in it. So I'm in good hands.
just a matter of saudering on new LEDs

not bad price. but i guess it sthe 1st step when adding more boost right?
Pretty much, I got a manual boost controller but I'm going for the blitz dsbc this summer cuz I'm planning on going the distance, So I need a good reliable easy to use boost controller.
So yeah it is a nice first step, you'll definetly notice the difference in power. I like to keep it at 14.5psi aprox 1 bar.

so even with all stock setup like my car, buying a boost controller would be a good idea?
when u say manual do u mean a bleeder valve? cause i think i could make one of those
Actually my MBC isnt just a bleeder valve, the unit it self isn't digital it's just a knob I can slide up and down for each rpm range to choose how much I want to boost.
Ex:1k-2k, 2k-3k...etc etc
And buying a Boost controller on your stock setup is actually a really good idea for power controll. This is the modification you'll notice the biggest difference on, until the time comes for bigger turbos.
This is definetly One of the first steps you should take in modification and the best.
The basic performance upgrade(BPU) usually consists of, intake ,exhaust, boost controller.

You could definitely solder in new leds if you wanted to change the colour, but it's damn hard and I wouldn't recommend it unless you're really good at soldering.
Marius, do you adjust your boost controller from in the cabin? If so, I imagine that it has an electronic actuator and is thus an electronic boost controller. Those knob ones I believe are the old HKS EVC units? I've never seen an mbc that has rpm range adjustment, except for a simple dual-stage system. Wouldn't that have to be a pretty big unit? What kind is it though? Sounds like a good cost-effective solution, and I imagine mbcs are a little more reliable than ebcs. I'll hopefully be getting one before the spring, and I was looking at the HKS EVC-5 or that Greddy E01. They both look like good technology. Has anyone heard much about them? They're both new is the problem, and untested on this platform for the most part. I would get the E01 with the e-manage system, but I think it can only support injectors up to 150% of stock...so I'd only be able to use 550s. I'm hoping in the future 550s won't be enough...:D
I solder a lot so I shouldn't have a problem.
My MBC is controlled from the cabin it's not that big really...It's a brand called superchips. As for reliability I havent had a problem with it so far, but for accuracy and quality controll I'm going for the Blitz DSBC spec R. It's simple to use and it's beeen tried and tested over and over to be the most reliable and all around best boost controller for our cars. The HKS IV is also a very good Boost controller I'm sure you'll love it.
Havent heard much about the 5 though.
And the engine managmet systems are a PITA to tune so unless you're a pro and feel like constantly playing around with it don't bother.
If you want to know how to install it yourself I believe jeff has it on his site...http://www.stealth316.com/

soldering new LED's is EZ marius!!! im an electronic engineer and ive soldered dozens of em! just remeber not to solder em upside down!
if your thinking of getting a new boost controller Blitz or whatever...if yours works OK how much would u sell it for???
never thought about it but I'd sell it dirt cheap!

Is it easy to do? I'm not the greatest with soldering (slightly shaky hands), but I am learning. I think I'll try it. I have a backlit display on a computer temp. monitor (I know way more about tuning computers than cars) that I wanted to make blue instead of orange. It's not too expensive, so I'll give it a go. Just need to get some little LEDs...
I'll let you know how it turns out...

there are many shops where u can by components such as LED's for cheap!!! if you search around Vic-park and Finch going north you will find a place called Active, Seyell's and Saiwa....Saiwa is the best one i think..u can get any component there!

Sounds good Monopoly! I'll check 'em out. I'm in need of some small electronics parts. I just got into these little RC cars...Bit Char-G they're called. Anyone else have these little things? Like the ones in Walmart in the little bubbles...they're very popular it seems, but I had never noticed them until a month ago. They've got all kinds of parts to supe them up...just like real cars only 1:70 scale in size and about 1:500 scale in price...=). I can get a new engine for under 10 bucks! :D
Man, I'm bad about staying on-topic...sorry there Marius...

:o oh and marius! if u are selling it i would be interested fer sure! do u notice anything different in the engine bay??? i kinda want my car to look like a sleeper.
ehhe nope don't notice anything in the engine bay at all.;)
Oh 3kgtzero make sure you get the right voltage type of LED. or you might have it too dim or too bright nd have it burn out.

heh yeah you dont wanna screw that up. Each LED should have a code written on the side of it.(i got one in my hands right now not used yet...
also TRY NOT TO TOUCH THE METAL PRONGS WITH YOUR FINGERS!!! they dont like the chemicals on your fingertips and could cause a bad connection when soldering afterwards.
