i was leaving school on friday and cruised towards market mall for a bit with what appeared to be an evo viii ... i thought we couldnt get those in canada tho?
it was silver with dark gunmetal type rims, light tint on all windows, plate said "evo pwr" haha. just wondering if anyone else has seen this car or knows how its here/if its legit.
only thing i could think of (assuming its here legally ... and that its real  ) is if it belongs to an exchange student or something. i think they are allowed to bring their car with them for the duration of their stay, right? something like that anyway. reasoning behind this is that it had a little flag sticker (blue and white stripes?) on the bumper ... so maybe he isnt canadian? meh i dunno
anyway, just curious about this car and looking for some more info ...

Actually it could be possible because a couple of Evo 8's got into canada before canada made them Illegal here.
Why are they illegal here?

Because the front intercooler get's easy bend and damaged even at 5km/hr so they won't alway them.

after doing some more digging i think you are right about the evo. looks like there were like 5-10 let into canada before anybody caught on that these werent your everyday 4-door lancers. from what i could gather, this is one of those few that were let in. i think it was originally in winnipeg actually.

I heard from a mitsu rep that its basically 2mm on the crash test that are keeping them from being up here.... same with the pontiac GTO....
ALS), as to how some got thru to canada was that there were some of the smaller border crossings that were just marking down Lancer and letting them through....
so stupid IMO... we can run open exhaust in Alberta, pollute anything we want, no sales tax, oil out our asses, but can t have evo's or GTO's....

I'm pretty sure they just got rid of the front bumper law (well conformed to the more standard testing) so they are now legal to come up.
I would just talk to your insurance company and ask what is needed to get one insured and then just go find one in the states.

Its a good law to have extra impact protection especially in Calgary where they don't plow roads or salt or you know, take care of them at all.
And drivers out here are pretty bad?
All it takes is one lady in a minivan or giant Merc SUV to smack you lightly and your brand new eVo needs 2k in work where a normal car would need 0$ and 0cents.
