As of lately with this really cold weather, i was wondering if our cars came equipped with block heaters? i kind of did a little looking back when it was warm but i didnt find any wires that might be associated with a block heater.

I'm not even sure if it was an option when new, but if you're using Synthetic oil you don't need it, as long as you've got a decent battery. I've left mine out over 24 hours before when the temp has been below -30C, and never had a problem starting it up. Besides, you don't want that extra weight do you?!?! lol j/k :D

Our blocks do have frost plugs. So I'm sure an aftermarket "universal" one will work.

Cold winter there eh? Funny how the weather is. We've had the warmest one on record here.

they sell em at can tire. I bought one, but never put it in cause the warm weather. Still starts fine now tho, even without one. Theyll run you about 30 bucks.

talked to both mitsu and dodge and they both said the only thing that you can do is an inhose block heater they are like $50 from dodge but i am sure that you could get one cheaper somewhere else

I agree with Snortin93. I run my car all winter with Mobil 1 oil and I've never had a problem starting it up. But then, I'm farther south than both of ya. :D

Yeah, the key thing if you're running your car in winter is to go with low viscosity oil. I had a Dodge Shadow with some 20w50 in it years ago. Thing would barely turn over in the winter (I lived in the Ottawa area at the time). Then I put a block heater in it, then it would just barely start. Switched the oil to 5w40 and it started up no problem, even without using the block heater.

They must make them for our cars because both my TT and ES have block heaters. I didn't install them but they aren't re-circ. pumps. I use the ES in the winter and when I plug it in, it keeps a clear patch on the hood about 14" dia. even with a slight skiff of snow. The TT I keep in cold storage and unplugged and agree that the synthetic is incredible. I run the car about every two weeks for 30min. and have never had a problem turning it over regardless of the temp. Moving it on the other hand.....stiff like a buck-board for the first 15 min.

we have had a crazy warm winter so far ... i was out at pick-n-pull last week in a t-shirt ... it was about +15.

anyway, i was pretty impressed yesterday when it was around -25 or -30. car started no problem! im running mobil1 15w50 btw.

Just another thought, the TT's should have an easier time starting too, since they have lower compression. Surreal, have you ever seen any 3S parts at Pick-ur-Nose here in Calgary?

didnt see any tt parts there, but i didnt really look too hard either. i was there stealing some parts for a different car.

i did swipe a few things from a talon they had though. looked like it had just been brought in as they usually are stripped pretty fast. the thing looked like it hit a curb and had rolled over a few times or something.
-couple of the rims were snapped (looked new, had new rubber too)
-huge bodykit was destroyed
-huge alum wing didnt survive
-underglow was shattered
-brand new lime green paint too!
.... and yes, it was the na base model

i hadnt been there for a long time ... but i dont think ive ever seen a tt 3s there.

Just go to an auto parts store and get an inline heater for the lower rad hose. You just cut the hose and splice the heater in. I installed one in my daughters Talon and it took about 1/2 hour. If I was daily driving a 3s I would have a block heater of sorts even tho the car will start there is a lot of wear on the engine starting up when it is -30. I lived in Winnipeg for 40 years. I had an s15 truck that I snapped the crank in half on a day that was -32 because I never plugged it in because it always started. If you decide to get an inline heater you need to know the rad hose size.

The exact reason starting and moving my TT right now scares the s#!t out of me! Its got 15w40 and 10w40 in it and chances are pretty slim its got a block heater in it, I was just out with ye old antifreeze tester just to make sure she's all good. Just out of curiousity if it came factory with a block heater what side would they have routed the cord lol....anybody know....anybody?

Chord comes up from the left... mines pretty long but it sits right on top of the fan almost.. so I gotta wrap it around something when its not plugged in to keep it out of there.
I just use 10-30 in my car..havent had any problems leaving it unplugged for full shifts at work yet, but I've got some pretty sketchy sounding noises from the engine for the first 5 seconds after starting.

well I haven't started mine since this cold snap, I'd never drive it in the winter anyway, but I'll be moving it soon but not while its this cold, I've got that thick oil in it and no clue if its got a block heater....not cool old man winter...NOT COOL
