Welcome aboard Leaky! What exactly are you doing to your tranny? Kormex in Ontario, CA is a good source for most parts, but I don't think you're going to find much locally or even nationally. I think there are a couple of group buys going on at 3Si for synchro's and things like that.
Its a VR4.... I have the usual tranny problems, grinding etc. So we will open it up and see what we need. I was just wondering for parts which direction to go, pull out of the states or order thru a site member ?
Snortin nice ride.

Thanks dude. I was the guy who pulled the team thru each of the preliminary rounds to get them into the gold medal final, and then never got to race that one! So I missed out on some of the credit that media gives to medal winners - one radio station even said I was the equivilant of a 3rd string goalie, ouch! But whatever.
Back on topic - About the transmission parts. Thru some of my experience with this damn car's transmission/engine, I have found that unless you find one specific part that needs replacing, you are almost better off buying a complete used (but in good condition) trans/engine, and then take the best parts of each for your car, then keep the rest of the remaining scraps to replace whatever breaks next! It might sound a little absurd, but may save money in the long run.
Any 3s owners on this forum that have a junkyard worth of scrap 3s trans/engine parts sitting behind thier garage say I!
I!

Have you tried swtiching to GM Syncromesh in the tranny? I used to grind gears and have since been grind free for about 5 years since swapping....

Welcome to the gang Leaky. Great to see another Alberta member. If we do a Sylvan Lake cruise again this year, we're gonna need a bigger parking lot. :D

I changed all the fluids to Mobil 1 and that did help but not quite enough. I'll try the syncromesh and give Kormex a call.

With mine, I had a slight grind going into 3rd. Changing fluid didn't help in my case, and I was also doing lapping days at Race City, so it progressively got worse. I decided it was time for a road trip, so I drove down to Kormex, and had them rebuild my tranny. It's been good ever since....
Snortin I see u have the short throw shifter. Does it work well and is it still available ?
I think the tranny is going to need more than a fluid change myself. I trust Kormex was good to deal with ?

I think the tranny is going to need more than a fluid change myself. I trust Kormex was good to deal with ?The 3KGT short shifter is definitely an improvement over stock, and I've been quite happy with it, however I'd still like something with even shorter throws, so I'm thinking about the group buy on 3Si for the Seattle shifter. http://www.3si.org/forum/showthread.php?t=312327
Ours will never be Honda-smooth  but I'm always looking at what's out there. The OhioSpyderMan shifter is also highly rated, but hasn't been available for a long time. Now he's trying to get a group buy going, but isn't getting as many people as he'd hoped for.
As for Kormex, they're great! I drove my car into their shop in Ontario, CA on a Monday afternoon, and they'd removed it, rebuilt it, and re-installed it by Tuesday night. Great guys to deal with, and quite reasonably priced. I think it was $2,050 USD for everything. I had them throw in a new clutch, pressure plate, and release bearing while they were at it.
Thanks to all for the warm welcome and friendly advice.

I can only speak for myself but I tried all the "cures" for grinding (outside replacing synchros) and GM Syncromesh was heads and shoulders about the rest.....

welcome Leaky (hey were you named after my water pump?!?:D )
Actually it comes from a bad golf swing. Its not a 'slice' the ball just leaks to the right....My opinion not others lol
