View Full Version : Quick Question
I just bought an Unorthodox racing UDP and I bought the "belt" at crappy tire. Is there supposed to be only one belt? also I might as well kill two birds with one stone and ask if anyone thinks it is feasable to swap my AT for a MT, how much money are we talking, performance wise etc ?
Thanks
I don't know about the UDP. But there are quite a few people who've done AT to MT swaps, and they say it's worth it in their opinion. You get shorter gear, and greater acceleration.
Stu - the UDP is not a good idea, as the crank is balance by it, this is Y the real name of it is harmonic balancer. It is there to balance the crank and prevent bad harmonic (vibrations). By changing it by an Unorthodox, you are preventing the crank from being balance and you might get a bad vibration going true the motor, witch you won’t feel. This might reduce the life of your engine to 1 year or may not affect it at all. Te only way to do it right is to get the crank balance with the UDP on it by a machine shop.
Belt, I don’t know about the SL, but all the TT or VR4 have 2, one for the PS and one for the alternator/AC.
Like Crazey said, a few guys on 3SI as done the swap, the cheapest way would be to find one in a wrecker as you need lost of parts.

Here's a link that you might find interesting, it should give you enough information to think about, this is done on a DSM so it's not by far a "How-To" thing, but a good place to start to make decisions...

Hope this helps...

UDP do damage????? Nuts to that , I've had mine for almost 2 years now without any problems. Everyone has a theory what it does to the engine , I say it does nothing harmfull at all. I've got 215,000 km on my TT and goin strong. Its a pretty worth while mod for the price of less then $200 US.
The only thing I can say is, call a machine shop and ask them.
But like I said, it might do some damage or it might not!
:) Thank you for all your help, I just had it put on yesterday and I am pleased with the difference it makes. Unfortunately I started to hear a loud squealing noise and my mechanic says that I have to purchase a new AC clutch, does anyone know how much this will cost?
