View Full Version : alky inj. install
here's a simple walk threw for you's guys
1- pull the Ypipe, battery, MAS and the intake pipes out
2- take out the washer fluid bottle
3- I put the pump on a cross member, it's mounted right beside the rear motor mount
4- drill the hole in the bottom of the washer fluid tank and install the nipple that comes with the kit (make sure to use some kind of goop to seal it)
5- find a location to mount the computer that triggers the pump, I decided to make a bracket from some 3" piping I had left over from my FMIC install
6- drill a hole in the pipe right before the TB (I have no pic of this since my pipes are getting welded)
7- run your hoses and wires
8- find where you want to mount the LED that comes with the kit, the LED lets you know the kit is working, I put it right beside my boost gauge since I'm always looking at it
I don't know if this will relate to other kits but mines from Snow Performance, this is just a simple walk threw, I'll update it at a later date with more pics of the kit completely installed

here's the pics, i'll get more when it's completely installed

Wow.. you beat me to it.. mine still doesn't work.. have to fix up the electrical part again after a small electrical fire right near the center console from when I first tested it (defective switch).
one day...

niiiice! (work!)
...and all the set up, I like the attention to smals details like the green led on the side of the boost gauge!!
thanks guys, the only hard part on the install was getting the pump on the cross member since the fuel lines and the coolant lines are in the way

You mounted it on the cross member? I guess that should prime itself pretty good that way! Mine is up top beside my big K&N, but it seemed to prime ok when I tested it.

Okay, now I'll ask a total noob question. What does the alky do and how does it do it? I've seen it referred to dozens of times, but I never investigated further.
Also, if your using the bottle for the, what? alky fluid?, then what do you do for windshield washer fluid?

some people actually use windshield washer fluid for their alky inj (its mostly meth and water anyway). conversely, a water/alky mix can always be used to wash your windshield too :p . you could also use a separate reservoir if you wanted.
alky inj is used to run more boost/timing adv. youre basically spraying a mist of water/alky into the charge piping and into the motor. it cools egts and reduces detonation. you can kind of think of it as raising the octane in the combustion chamber since water doesnt like to burn; itll absorb a lot of energy/heat.

DAGE: is this a progressive kit?
so youll be using the trigger that is provided with the kit? does the maftpro have some type of output that could be used to activate the alky?
Steve my pump is mounted right beside my rear motor mount, seen a couple post of some ppl mounting it there and it seemed like a good spot since it's out of the way
Surreal I'm not sure what you mean by progressive but on the controller that comes with the kit it has a start point and the max point, so I can have it start at 9psi, and have it spray fully at lets say 20psi, and I think the MAFT PRO can control it but at this time I'll just leave it the way it is and learn how to use all this stuff first

yeah thats what i meant by progressive; you can set a starting point and a 100% full spray point and it will increase the flow as boost rises. kits that arent progressive simply start spraying 100% at the start point and continue on that way.
looks like youre making good progress on the car, thanks for the little write-ups along the way. :)

Thanks for the expaination Surreal. Me thinks I understand now.:)

I checked the wiring diagram for the MAFT PRO, you can control the alky inj. with it but I don't know if it'll be progressive or not, the MAFT PRO can also change tunes if the alky inj stops working
the reason I decided to use the washer fluid bottle was because it has a low level warning, the bottle that comes with the kit dosn't
here's some pics of where the nozzles goes, I don't have it in there since I wasn't ready to use the alky inj. and it was leaking when I pressure tested it
