Hi Guys,

Garage screwed up my car good...to make a long story short...now I have a Jspec engine...I belive I have a boost leak (phleum...intake manifold...or whatever) since I believe I got all the other leaks fixed when i did a pressure test myself...but I am still losing air fairly quick and I can hear some losses it appears under the front drivers side of the phleum...those turbos dont seem to set me back they use to and not as quickly...even though the mechanical gauge i just installed shows they are boosting okay once the revs are up around 3000 rpm's...

I can not afford another screw-up and am mechanic shy...from conversations here it seems like it might be worthwhile for my sanity to bring my car to Calgary ...to that Import Specialist shop... what do you think? ... actually since i live in Medicine Hat...I would prefer to go to Lethbridge if there was an actual expert there...comments please...what kind of money should i expect to pay? Note the plugs and wires (skinny pieces of shit...7mm dia) that this garage put on are like new...but maybe I should replace the wires ... hopefully they installed the correct plugs but perhaps check the gap

are you just concerned about the boost leak? i doubt its worth taking it in just to have a boost leak checked out man. why dont you pressure check it again and see if you can find it?
are you running stock boost? what does your boost gauge say?

you could always try to meet up with some of the ab members too. im sure if you popped by for one of the meets or something we could try to give you a hand with pressure testing or whatever.

Yes, I am mostly concerned about the boost leak...I was running stock boost originally but I have just recently installed a manual boost controller with a gauge so I would know what was happening...had it set to boost at 13.5psi but noticed when i datalogged it that I was getting fairly high knock at 17 so I am going to reduce the psi to probably 10 or so ... but it bugs the hell out of me that this car just doesn't have that awesome feel anymore when the turbos cut it...I wouldn't want to race anybody...but I think perhaps I will try doing a pressure leak test again...Yeah...I would like to get together sometime with some members...I sure liked that idea where some guys get together and work/learn how to do things to these cars...Thanks for replying perhaps we will hook up sometime...but first I have two questions:
1. When is the boost suppose to kick in...I thought originally mine use to kick in just over 2000 rpm's but now it kicks in about 2800 rpms' ...
2. Are there any members in Calgary area that are "older"...like me... I am 51 years old but act like a kid...lol

ah crap ... forgot to mention that canada3si has an age restriction allowing only members under 25 years of age to participate ... ill alert the mods and have you banned asap!
haha not to worry ... we have a pretty good spectrum of members actually. you just missed a little mini-meet in calgary for the 'dash removal seminar' though.

maybe your high knock counts are causing your car to pull timing and making it feel slow. try dialing it back to 10 or 11 psi and see how it feels. are you just starting to build boost at 2800? or is that when youre building 13 psi?

We should have a pressue-leak session some time, and see what we find among all the guys!?!? Having another set of ears listening has never hurt.

Have you checked the compression? It'd be interesting to see how that is. Now could you just be getting used to the power, and it's now become normal, so that it doesn't seem as quick? I said I'd never need to mod mine, but a month after owning it, I was looking for more power as I'd gotten used to it. It'd be interesting to see how it does on a roll against a comparable Stealth. That'd at least give you a benchmark to go by.

As for old guys, there are a few in Calgary and area. I'm 45, and Shadowfax & Eddie are somewhere north of 30 :p . We'll probably do a few things again this year, so hopefully you can join us. It's the kids in the group that keep us young.

Now about that boost party....

I really would like to go for a little long next time for sure. Maybe this summer if my car is good for the drive!

There were a few guys in Alberta interested in doing their 60K mile service this spring/summer. If you timed it right, you might have a lot of work lol!
Maybe PM CalgaryBulldog as I think he was going to have it done.

LMAO, somewhere north of 30 - too funny. Although I'm located south of you geographically, I'm north of you chronologically Snortin.

2800 rpms is when it starts to build boost...

yeah if youre seeing vac up to 2800 it sounds like something is certainly amiss. ive got boost leaks big enough for me to hear them at wot ( ) but i still see boost before that.

that doesnt seem to give you much of a window man :p

[QUOTE=RTTTBLACKBEAUTY...but I am still losing air fairly quick and I can hear some losses it appears under the front drivers side of the phleum[/QUOTE]

There is a black pipe that connects to the rear turbo. behind the intake manifold. it is held on with one bolt. that is a known leaking spot, and might make you think the sound is coming from that side of the manifold.
To fix it, you need a new rubber O-ring. Probably $10 bucks? just undo the pipe, pull out the rubber ring, and put in the new one. I put a bit of oil on it first to keep it from drying out again.

A $10 fix that might help.

[Thanks for the suggestions...yes I have already replaced the O-ring part you are referring to and the rubbber stopper over the throttle body idle screw...they were both leaking...but I still have a leak somewhere...I guess I will just have to borrow a air tank again and try again...If I had the leaks fixed and put say 12 psi air in...how long do you think it would take before it would leak enough that you wouldnt hear the air escaping ... that is the biggest problem i guess..it losses the air so quickly.
