Hi guys,

I have a question regarding radar detectors.

I know they are illegal for use in Ontario. However, I was talking to some riceboy the other day who had one in his car.

As I am interested in the technology, I'd like to see if I could acquire one to perform some experiments with ;) (in my basement, of course)

Anyone know where I might do so?

That's great.

I guess your "experiment" has been successful.

Can you help me, though, that is the question:confused:

I got one too :p

Try getting a friend in the states to just bring one up for you. If you ship it customs might take it away.

Oh, I know they would...

I just don't have anyone who could do that for me *sigh*

Which do you have?
I hear that the Valentine 1 is THE best!

Ya but aren't they like $379 US? I have an escort something or other, works well and have VG2 and all the other features, I got it for $150 I think.

Why don't you just get one of us guys out West to get one for you and ship it over....ie, no customs? Will that work?

So you can't buy them at all in Ontario?

They are legal in Alberta, as far as I know...

Perfectly legal :)

But who needs em, they always hide in the same spots anyways... they are good for detecting "auto open" doors like at grocery stores and walmarts.

Ever since Alberta's solicitor general got pulled over for speeding, and the RCMP noticed a radar detector in his car, they've been legal in Alberta. Doesn't it just figure?! It's been legal since the early 80's. You can pick them up at Future Shop, A&B Sound, Visions, any decent auto parts place, most electronic places. They're prolly cheaper in the U.S. though.

I've read that the fine for having a radar detector, whether you are using it or not, can be up to $1,000.

Alberta, land of the free. No emissions testing at all, and radar detectors are legal. Now when are one of our politicians gonna get caught with a hooker?

I got nabbed with mine last year on my birthday of all days ( happy fuckin B'day  ) and the ticket was $150 still not paid:D and 2 demerit points

I paid $35 US for it on ebay, it was a pretty good one too, it was VG2 undetectable, but the local cops here (RNC) have a better system than VG2 here it is called Spectre or somethin, I dunno if there is a detector out there that is spectre invisible yet.

I take pride in my setup. I have;

BEL Radar and Laser detector - Bike
Sprint II Radar and Laser Jammer. - Bike
Cobra Radar and Laser detector - Car

The jammer has been tested in the US and is proven to create malicious interference with police radar equipment.:D

Yeah, I have a uniden something rather. Don't use it in the city since they are always in the same spots. I've had 2 photo radars though. I only use my radar detector on the highway.

My Cobra has warned me approx. 3 kilometers away on a straight road:D I thought I was getting a false reading and then sure as shit, a cop over the hill.

Man....I could have used one of those today. I was going 97 in an 80, and the cop pulls me over. I left with a 15 over ($50 fine, no points).

They are really coming down on people because this is a back road in the boonies (that I normally never use) that everyone goes over a 100km's on, and never seemed to get a ticket.

Luckily I wasn't in the stealth, or I may have been in big trouble (not the right plates). I was in a friggen 1988 Pontiac 6000 (aka winter beater)...well, that is number 5 in 8 years. So far nothing over 15km though for tickets.

Couple hundred bucks will get an alright one. The good ones are invisible to the cops. If they are illegal in your province, open up the case and add leads to the sensors. Then mount the sensors in you grill. You can put the base unit down where the pigs can't see it.
