unless it had very very VERY low kms on it, i wouldnt touch that. It would have to be served on a silver plate for that price. If you're really serious about getting a vr4, get one from the states. Get a 1993 vr4/twin turbo so you have the 25 spline tranny as opposed to the 18 spline (they break pretty easy). I know a bunch of people that get VR4's from the states with no problems. I'd do that and wait for a wicked wicked deal. You can get them as cheap as 5,000 american. But way cheaper than 20k canadian thats for sure.

Some of the late '92s have the 25 spline shaft as well (mine does).
What are the miles on the car? I wouldnt even think about it unless it was incredibly low mileage. Mine is mostly stock with about 10K miles on a rebuilt engine and if I was to sell I'd probably ask around $15K or so. Of course I have 0 intention of selling and it would probably take $20K+ to get the car off me :p.

the miles on it is 113k
i offered him 14000cash..but he says 16..
tomorrow going to have a look n show him cash then probably get it inspected if i like it...

I know what you mean. As rare as stealths are its fun having a car thats even more rare :D.
Definatley have it inspected by someone who knows what they are doing! The last thing you want is to have to rebuild the engine (believe me I know).
If you manage to get him down any use the cash you saved to perform the 120k maintenace.

ok well i saw the car today..
needs a full tune up..
guy never changed the timing belt..water pump..spark plugs..etc etc
active aero doesnt work properly..
clutch was hard..
white smoke..(when shifting)
there was a ticking sound..
the acceleration was going up and down a little..but im sure thats probably cus of the tune up?spark plugs n wires?
by the way can any1 tell me if theres alot of difference in sound .. like an sl and vr4?
cus the vr4 tht i saw had a deep sound and way different from the sl i have
maybe cus of the downpipe he has?( sorry never owned a vr4 b4 )
n yeah i still gave the guy the same offer $14k but hes not coming down from 16k , i know for sure noway in hell he would be able 2sell that for 16k
p.s his sport/tour light was blinking aswell.. any 1 knows why?maybe its not working?

hmm dont know about the white smoke when shifting that could be turbo and ya it has 113km you said most likely needs the 60mile tune up then but dont give him more then 14 and it would be better to buy one from the states or get a imported one for cheaper
i'll give you some advice, and i suggest you take it...
First off, this is SUPER important... Have patience
Secondly, wait for a smoking clean car, i mean super clean in the engine bay, inside, check for rust, if the car is clean then that most likely taken extremely well from the previous owner(s)
Don't pay the retarded prices canada tries to pass off, i wouldnt pay more than 13k canadian for a super clean 3000gt when i can go to the states and get a NICE one for about 9k + fees.
Please take this advice... i had to wait for my car for about 1 year 7 months. And even so, i had to compromise a bit. But i came by a few sweet deals, just need to wait for it bud. Dont make the mistake of buying something with out a compression test and a mechanic to look it over.

Yeah your right
Im not buying that guys car. Hes asking and talking as if its a 94+vr4 in mint condition.
I am making deal with this seller from the states.. i gave him my offer.. so lets see what he says. i will hear from him later tonight. that is 1 DEFINATELY clean. But if he doesnt take my offer then i guess ill have to wait till i find a good 1:)
But thanks for ur concern:)
by the way changing the seals of the tranny..is it a huge job?cus i saw a vr4 in states that needs to get that done but the seller says that its not a big thing.he says when he drives the car for too long..and parks it..it drips for about 15min and then stops.

I bought both of my VR4 cars from the USA, one from Texas and its MINT!!! and one from Oklahoma...not so mint but cost $4000...when I purchased it...needed only an ECU ($400 usd for a new remanufactured unit) and then good to go for 2 years...
BTW the word is definitely, note the spelling: it adds to your credibility!! LOL

From what I've heard, there are no importing fees when bringing cars into Canada that are 15+ years old. 91's are in, and won't be long before we can all save money on the 93+'s!

Not quite true. If you are importing a car that is 15 years or older there is one of the smaller fees that you don't have to pay. I believe it is ~$150. If you import any car into Canada you 1) Pay exchange(no brainer) 2)still have to pay 7%GST(soon to be 6% in July.) 3) If the car ever had A/C ,working or not, there is a fee of ~$150CAD. 4)Pay 6% duty. Unfortunatley any Stealth or 300gt would qualify for duty. If the car was manufactured in North America you are exempt from the duty- they go strictly from its VIN number whether thay charge you or not. It gets tricky with cars like BMW Z3's as some are manufactured in US and some in Germany, and the only way to tell is its VIN. As I was looking at importing an MR2 into Canada recently- this info is pretty solid. There is also a ~$100 inspection you have to pay at Canadian Tire once the car has been brought across to make sure its road worthy. They may not even look at the car at the border crossings. My brother brought over a 67 Camaro convertible and totally easy. Everyone that I know that has done it has said its easier than you think just be sure to fax the bill of sale to the US border you plan to cross 48 hours before you are there. Morale of the story: if importing a Stealth or 3000GT into Canada and buy at $10,000USD =10,0000x1.15exchange=11,500x1.13 duty+GST=$13,000+airfare$500+A/C+inspect$250+gas and snacks+300= $14,000 CAD grand total(and hopefully not a lemon as you have no way of knowing)

I have imported 11 cars from the US into Canada.
FIRST, there is no $100 fee to be paid to canadian Tire: their fee is covered by your Form 2 cost of $200 paid to the R.I.V. The CT inspection (in Ontario) takes about 10 minutes and there is no cost whatsoever.
Second, US customs do NOT accept faxes of the US title on the car. They need the original ONLY so courier it and get it signed for so it can be tracked.Additionally, once it is cleared by US customs, they stamp the US title which MUST be presented to Canadian Customs 10 minutes later. again original document ONLY.
Last US customs needs the title for 72 hours not 48: you guys are silly passing all these stories around about who did what etc with all these errors...go to www.riv.ca and MEMORIZE everything there....PLEASE

Since when did they stop accepting faxes? As of April this year they still did when we brought my nephews car from PA back here.
Yeah the 72 hours is right though. But its more like 3 business days here. They don't count weekends.

The US border does accept faxes before you show up- again not a silly story but from checking out myself and my brothers expereince. If you bought a car in the US, I doubt the owner would agree to send away his original title or bill of sale until he had all funds. And I know personally I would not give him all funds until I see the car in person. They will definitely need the original when you pass through in person. Ontario may also do things different from the rest of Canada as far as fees. The custom agents at the Alberta/Montanna border was the one who told me it needs to be inspected at Crappy Tire to ensure road worthyness and it costs ~$100-150 CAD. I don't think what I put qualifys as a "silly story" as it comes directly from the border guy(on both sides of the border) who does the transaction as well as this is what my brother did earlier this year. I also think that you'll agree that my estimate of the true cost of bringing a car across is pretty darn close.

I have just returned from bringing backing my 5th US vehicle here is how is works for ALL provinces.
1. US Customs must be faxed a copy of the title at least 72 hours prior to importation.
2. Report to US Customs and have them inspect the vehicle and stamp the title.
3. Go next to Canada Customs where everyone pays gst on the selling price of the car
(those in Atlantic Canada have to pay the "harmonized" tx)
4. If the vehicle was manufactured anywhere other than Mexico, Canada or the USA duty of 6.1% is charged on the selling price.
5. If your vehicle is newer than 15 years you have to pay the RIV currently $209 (higher in Quebec), this fee is dropping effective July 1, 2006 to $206
6. $100 tax for Air Conditioning working or not.
There is no charge for the Federal Inspection which must be performed at Canadian Tire, it is inclusive of the current $209 fee paided to the RIV.
At the border be prepared for Canada Customs to think you are low balling them on what you paid for it, they have done this to me all 5 times. Just ensure you have all your paper work in order.
