The minute i get out my car im buying new sub/sub box/deck, maybe amp the works!!!
Anways, i know didley shit about stereo stuff but i wanna get a MP3 player and a plexiglass Box to fit a single 12" sub. I was thinkin about 500-600W sub but i only got a 240W no-name brand amp...i guessing i'll need a bigger amp???
also i got two poineer 6X9's for the back not installed as well..i think im gunna pay for it to get installed unless anyone in TO area know howto install this stuff???
ALSO that double deck is HUGE! do they make brackets that big to fit that hole or do oyu have to custom make one yourself???

you should be able to pick up a installation kit for the double DIN to single DIN unit, it will come with a pocket of some sort to fill the gap.
i would also look at getting your front & rear speakers amplified with a 4ch amp or somethin! Personally I would amplify speakers before worying about the sub, it does make that much of a difference!
as far as a MP3 head unit you should look for one that is equipped with 3 sets of preamp out puts, Front, Rear, Sub
I may be selling my brand new MP3 player, which has the adapter kit already on it. I paid $400 for the player a month ago. I will let you know.
Otherwise, when it comes to stereo the 2 most important items are the headunit (deck) and amps.
A good headunit will provide clear sound, and have a built in eq for limited tuning. It should also have 2 preouts for amps, and 1 subout, strictly for the bass amp. With amps, bigger doesn't aways mean better. Quality is where it is at. A smaller amp that is the same price will probably pound just as hard, last longer and provide better quality sound. If you are replacing your whole system, door and dash speakers included, I suggest 2 amps and a crossover. That will stop bass from getting to your tweets, and will allow you to tune each range of sound. If you go for a multiple amp setup, you will want a battery capacitor to save your alternator and your battery.
Speakers are also one of those things you get what you pay for. Cheap speakers sound that way, and won't last long. A decent speaker is all you need, if matched up correctly to the proper amp.
For amps, I suggest planet audio. Not very expensive, but are good quality. For subs and speakers you cannot go wrong with JL Audio, or any comparative speaker (Rockford Fosgate, Cerwin Vega, Eclispe).
Wires are also important and something people overlook. A cheap unprotected wire will cause interferrance in your speakers and give you the alternator whine. Don't cheap out here, cheap out on speakers instead.
All told, a decent system should cost upwards of $2500.
Deck - $300 - $400
amps - $800 - $900
speakers - $900 - $100
subs - $300 - $400
This may seem like a lot, but it is just like speed. If you want to play, you gotta pay. If you want quality sound, you will pay for it.
I also DO NOT recommend buying stolen items. Not only you not know the quality of the item and how it has been used, but you also are encouraging people to steal yours by supporting the industry.

edit - I am fairly good with installing decks and speakers and stuff. It is fairly basic. However, amps and door speakers are where I normally let the pro's do it because of the cost of replacement and the general fact that wiring into the doors is a PTIA.
A deck install will cost about $80 - $100 at a stereo place, and that will include the harness and adapter kit. Amp installs are normally about $100 and up with wires and parts.
It isn't expensive though. If you get the amp in there, I would be more then willing to wire up your subs and deck.

Whoa malice thats a lotta info! thanx man!
anyways i actually just wanna get my 6X9's installed and will run them on my deck. That'd also be gr8 if you were sellin your deck as well.
I heard to stay away from "Sony" is that correct???
anyways i dont mind the front stock setup that much for now.
all i really need is a nice powerfull 12"(plus box thinkin plexiglass) sub and a good amp. The stock stereo system has wee bass and sounds kinda muffled and not that clear.
If you could install this stuff malice, how bout i buy a case a beer and we get to work!

I bought a Pioneer Premier DEH-740MP, MP3 player. You will notice a huge difference in bass performance even just with the new head unit.
Used to have 4 subs, but soon got sick of them, and my hearing was starting to suffer..be careful.
I will have my deck Saturday, once I pull it out of the car which is at the dealers.
The deck may be a snap depending on 1 thing. Do you have the factory infinity upgraded stereo? If you do, it may not be as easy as pull out yours, and put in mine. I am willing to look into it if you would like.
The speakers should be fairly easy if it is just a replacement. figure out which wire is positive and negative, then pull out and put in the other. Should be a snap. But I have said that before, and it turned out the other way.
Sony has come a long way, but it is still barely middle of the road stereo equipment. It is decent stuff for what you pay for, but not as good as most stuff out there. It is comparable with pioneer and kenwood entry level stuff.
If you are looking for a sub box with plexiglass, do you mean a band pass? The type of box where the sub is totally enclosed in the box, with just a clear face to see the sub. If so, don't bother. Bandpasses, or more commonly called "Bandaids" will not provide you with the quality of sound you are looking for. They are great for rumble, not as loud as a ported enclosure, and not as clear as a regular sealed enclosure.
Anyway, I am available most weekends. This one is shot though, as I have plans, most of which revolve around me and my car dealer.
email me at Malice96i4@hotmail.com when you are available in the future.

Sweet! i'm not sure about the infinity upgrade...how can you tell which ones which??? I get insurance on my stealth starting April 1st but i need front tires BADLY before i can go anywhere. Also i need ti get the TC fixed and front alignment done...So maybe a weekend early april sound good???
heres a pic of exactly what my deck looks like that stupid double unit...altho i dont think i have the infinity setup...
anyways the bandpass box idea i think i'll pass on then and just go with a normal single box.
So if your selling your deck, how much would you sell it for?

whoops forgot to incl pic:)
Well, I can tell for one thing you are amped. It doesn't look like the factory one, so that is interesting.
Your deck looks like the regular cassette deck, with the option of having the 6 disc changer in the rear. I would have to check the wiring harness to make sure ours match up, but if they don't they are normally around $15 from the local car audio stores.
Here is my deck:
http://www.jvc.ca/en/consumer/product-detail.asp?model=KD-SH707
(quick break down of important items)
CD player
MP3 cd player
2 pre-lineouts
1 sub lineout
built in 7 channel EQ
18 FM memory
6 AM memory
bass boost
I have the remote for it too. I would be looking for $450 for it. I paid $400, plus taxes, just over 3 weeks ago. Plus you add on the wiring harness and adapter kit on top.
It is really cool, because when you burn MP3's, if you attach the name and band of the song it will show you it.
check to see if there is a amplifier under the passenger sear seat bolted to the floor!!

450? thats not bad w/harness and adaptor...
lol i dont have the 6 CD changr..if u look close in that pic there is a Tape and single CD input. I would keep the stock deck but it prolly doesnt have the greatest sound quality and it doesnt like burned CD's.
I'll check to see if the there's an amp under the passenger seat when i get him(at work right now)...Thanx Bigboi!
If I put this in, it would remove both decks. The adapter kit is for a double DIN deck (the big ones), to change it to a single DIN (normal size decks from the aftermarket).
Yes, it would be $450 with the harness and DIN adapter. Hell, I would even drive it to you and put it in. I enjoy working on cars. I just hope you don't have any children or younger siblings as I curse a bit when working on cars  :)
I would have to take a good look at your setup before I go gung-ho on it, so if you would like next weekend I can drive up there with the deck, and take a look. If it goes in no prob, we make a deal. If it looks like it could be a PITA, we work something out.
Sound good? If so, PM me and I will give you my work email address, as it is the easiest way to get a hold of me.
runnin speaker wire to the doors is pretty easy.... i did both mine but with the car looking the way it did it was pretty easy to run wires....:D (see pic)

right on...i don't live that far away from Toronto i don't think.
You just take the 404 right to the end to leslie street and ur already 2 mins away from my house!
Shit i forgot the check to see if i had an amp under the seat!(at work again!) Also there is 2 +/- wires running to the back which is connected to the deck! i connected a speaker to it and it worked! But that's all there is no wires connected to battery.
If u could come by and install the deck that's even better! Next weekend is not a bad idea..i work untill 6:30pm on Sat so Sun would be good fer me..and no i dont have little kids around its cool to swear/drink/smoke whatever
:)

Yay i just installed an amp and a single 12" Sub! Only problem is the stock deck doesnt have any RCA outlets on it!!! i kinda saw that one coming...
anyways when i finally get enough money for a deck i was wondering if i could just pull out the stock CD player and leave the Tape deck where it is...i dont care if it doesnt work but would a aftermarket deck fit into the bracket???
