I installed Kenwood 6/9's in the back http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0926INGFS10072579&catid=20116they seemed to work well when i was installing them, didnt turn them up loud or anything... once i got everything pieced togeather i listened to them and when the bass in a song gets prominant they get quieter, i don't see how this could be normal. I thought i could run these off my stock head unit no problem but is it a case of needing an amp? any help would be great.

I installed a set of Pioneer door speakers ($195) as replacments and they work great. However I think the ohms on the speakers is a different value from standard speakers. I tried installing a big sub woofer and huge 1500w amp ... it sounds like sh-t so I took it out and will probably put it into a different car. I even tried using the high/low output adapter and found that it didn't make any difference. Other people installed amps without my problem. Call a stereo installation specialist and he may be able to sell you some speakers with the right ohms, just don't expect them to be cheap.

i dont claim to understand much about car audio at all, but if those 6x9s are rated at 300w rms, youre gonna need to amp them. an average aftermarket deck probably puts out ~35w :o

btw different decks in different cars should not affect sound quality or resistance... itll just be how the speakers/sub(s) are wired through the amp(s). for subs and other low freq drivers, youll probably need crossovers for them to sound right.

edit: do you guys happen to remember what kinda mounting depth was available in the stock 6.5 and 6x9 locations? im also about to install some speakers, but im starting to wonder if theyll fit properly :(

There is tons of space in the backs for the 6x9s i think pretty much any speaker would fit, as for the 6x5s there is limited space... the speakers i got are rated at a MAX of 300w the recomended power range is 55w which im guessing is still out of my range with the stock head unit, ill probably end up ripping into the back seat again to try and find a solution maybe i didn't hook up the wires to the right connections? +to- and vice versa would this give me my symptoms maybe???

you typically wont need to run an amp on speakers like that
if you install components they can handle a lot more power and need an amp to power them sufficiently
most decks only actually run at around 20watts rms to each channel.. or 50 max power
you can wire subs/speakers up or down terms of ohms.. a lot of subs run at 4.
speakers usually 2 or 4. thats not something the wiring in the car should restrict
so i'm not sure what to suggest.

nice to hear that there is lots of space for the rear 6x9s :) ... but its not sounding so good (no pun intended) for the door speakers :(
my 6.5s are fairly slim-ish so hopefully ill be able to squeeze them in.

Riped into the back seat a fiew days ago and switched the wires... This made a marginal difference slightly better, so i tied everything up and played w/ the balance and equilizer they sound great now!
