View Full Version : Downpipes?
Does anyone know where to get downpipes here in Ontario? Can only seem to find them in the US....

Any half-decent muffler shop can make one for you.

Since I couldn't quickly get my hands on a Stillen DP, I had the local muffler shop build one for me, eliminating the main cat completely, and gutting the pre-cats. I really wanted to eliminate the front pre-cat, but they left it as is. Cost was around $340 CDN.

Holy cow, that is a good price.
I paid $600
is it aluminized or stainless?

It's just standard aluminized exhaust pipe with the flexible metal pieces in the appropriate places. They did a really good job, and it looks like it just came from the factory. My old one was trashed, lots of holes in the flexible metal, and the cat looked like it'd lost a battle with a shotgun.
I originally had it done as a stop-gap measure, until I could get a proper performance downpipe. After having it on for the past 3 weeks, I'm not going to be in any hurry to replace it. Lots of other mods that I want to spend my money on...:D

Hey, did someone call my name? I second that!!!!
We can have a big gutting party at my place. I've got the garage, compressor, jack stands, engine hoist, and a big empty FRIDGE. Shouldn't be hard finding some beverages to put in it.....
Actually both my cats were supposedly gutted, but they kept the front one as part of the new down pipe, unlike the aftermarket ones, where it is eliminated completely.
memystealthandi, what date have you scheduled in? No wonder you were voted president of the Calgary group in absentia.

Off topic, but I was thinking June 14th. Urban Dream import show is on that weekend, sponsored by silent rage. See the Western Gathering thread for details....

You guys in Ontario have it rough! I'm just guessing, but I'd imagine that removing the catalytic converter would cause you to fail on the visual inspection right away. I don't know about the pre-cats. Someone from Ontario should have a better idea of what you can get away with. Out here in Alberta, it's still the wild west; no emissions concerns to be worried about. Something to do with fresh air and wide open spaces.....:D
Removing the cat and gutting the pre-cats will make the car a bit louder. It gave mine a nice bark with the stock exhaust system still in place. I don't think I'd want it any louder tho.

I have been told, (TOLD, mind you, not DONE) that since the pre-cats are mainly for start up emissions, if you run the car pretty hard for 20 mins before your test, on some good 94 octane, you will pass with only the main cat. Have to get it good and hot though. I thought i had to do mine this year, but apparently not. My pre cats are long gone, so i have no real choice anyway.

I've had my HKS downpipe for about 4 years now and it does eliminite one of my pre-cats. I have NEVER failed an emissions test.
BTW I paid $600.00 at the time for it.
