I bought my girlfriend a persian kitty for about $850 for Christmas. It was sickly from the day we got it. Now, it appears to have FIP which is an incurable virus and we're probably going to have to put it down. We've spent anoth $700 on vet bills since we got it.

Now, I haven't even talked to petland yet. Anyone ever deal with a situation like this? I'm pissed that I've had a sick cat from day one and the "warrenty" that came with it basically says that petland washes their hands of the situation basically after the first 2 weeks of ownership.

See if you can get your vet to prove/say it was like this from day 1. Deceases like that don't normally just happen overnight, so if they can prove that you were sold a sick cat, you may be able to recoup some money.

Guys, lets be a little more sensitive here....the guy has 4 major probs here. 1) He's out a lot of money 2)He got ripped off by a business 3)He prob. has a wreck of a girlfriend to handle now. 4)Its hard to watch an animal suffer/die.
So stop acting like jackasses for one fucking thread and lets help the guy out. And moving forward, maybe pick the threads we goof on, with a little more discretion.
Sometimes it amazes how stupid we can become when a BROTHER has a legitimate problem, asks for our help, and we make dumb jokes and offer no help at all to the guy, but can devote hours to threads debating styles of wheels and headlight bulbs. We are all out of high school, arent we?

its too late now, but of course in a perfect situation, if the cat was sick straight away, that would have been the time to return it, and if you did, have some sort of documentation stating that you at least attempted to.
One thing you can do, is try and cut your losses- get pet insurance and go to a different vet (it has to look like a "new" sickness for the claim to go through).
You have to get a legal looking letter sent to Petland- some lawyers will do it relatively cheaply i.e. $50. Make sur eit sounds firm, but open for a solution...i.e. replace ment cat/ share vet bills, etc. but always try for more than you are willing to accept. Include research that proves the animal is born with the disease, and could not be picked up elsewhere....or has an incubation time dating back to the time of purchase or sometime....you see where i'm going.

I had a similar situation with a dog once....with cheap medication, she should have a long happy life as well....
