Western Gathering - Official Thread

Ok, this thread will serve at the offical thread for the Western Canada Gathering that we're trying to organize. The gathering is meant for people from Alberta/B.C/Sask/Manitoba to attend. (if others really want to drive out here you're welcome to though.)

The proposed location for the event this year is CALGARY
and the gathering will most likely take place in mid June
we are looking at getting sponsorship from local speed stores..(for a full list of speed stores, some of which we will try to get to sponsor, look here: speedstores (http://albertacars.net/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=119) ) We are also looking at having a track day at the event, which would include racing the road course at race city speedway.

At this time we would like to see what kind of interest there is.

W3apon, when will you have the advertising literature available for the masses? Do we want to invite any unsuspecting Stealth owners to this site, and then have them register? I know of at least 2 Stealth's that are regularly parked on the streets here in Calgary. Don't know if they'd have any interest, but I guess it doesn't hurt to make them aware of it.

Okay, how does the weekend of June 14th sound..?

There is an import show that weekend...(one of like the 6 this summer)

Here are the details on the show. (reposted from www.albertacars.net) It is sponsored by Silent Rage.

PARTY- 9PM- 2AM

Urban Dream is proud to produce its 1st annual import car show and after party for 2003. Our main goal and vision is to unite all the car enthusiasts in the province for a 1-day extravaganza, featuring some of Alberta’s most modified imports.

As this is a show for the people of Alberta and surrounding areas, our focus is to produce the best import car show Alberta has ever seen. To achieve this goal, we plan on producing a show that will please everyone. Our goals are to bring in cars from outside the city, an amazing list of entertainment, and as many attractive models we can get a hold of. In further attempts in making this an incredible spectacle, we have attempted to incorporate very appealing attractions with low prices. Immediately following the IMPORT CAR SHOW, an AFTER PARTY has been scheduled where everyone can kick back, relax and talk about the show that just passed. The presentation of Trophies, Awards, and the crowning Miss Import Alberta will be featured at the after party.

In putting a show together, we value the importance of the cars, the guests, and the vendors. We understand that the cars are the main attraction and without all the tuners, we wouldn’t be able put this show on. To return the favor, we are giving out tons of prizes and benefits along with a couple large cash prizes and trophies, which include $500 to the Best of Show and another $250 to the People’s Choice. Awards will also be given out to cars, best in its class.

Since the show is for the people, we are trying to put together a large list of entertainment. Some of the entertainments we are trying to include are DJ battles, slam dunk competitions, B-boys, Miss Import Alberta pageant, GT 3 tournament, RC racing tournament, models, live local talent, tons of prizes, giveaways and the AFTER PARTY.

General Admission

Admission for the Urban Dream Show will be $10.00 in advance and $12.00 at the door.
Tickets for the Urban Dream After Party will also be $8.00 in advance and $10.00 at the door. The venue for the party will be announced at the launch of our website.

Vehicle Registration Information

$35.00/car (includes entry of vehicle, two passes to the show and two tickets to the Urban Dream after party)
Awards will be given out to cars, best in its class + $500 to the Best of Show and another $250 to the People’s Choice.

Still nothing nailed down with the track day. The thing is, we will need quite a few more people to "afford" a track day. Otherwise the per person cost will be to expensive.

I'm looking into the possibility of asking another club, and having a joint track day? Any suggestions on which club? Maybe the "z" club? What do y'all think?

:( Sad but I think it's true... once you tell people it will cost $100 (or more) to do a track day they'll say forget it. But if we only have 10 people it will be pretty prohibitive for anyone. I'd say the DSM club is a logical choice, but I really can't see more than a couple of us willing to plunk down the $$. After that, the field gets pretty wide. Is there an official Z car club in town? :confused:

I guess price is all relative. I've wanted to take a driving/racing course for years, but could never come up with $3,000 - $10,000 for a weekend of trackside education. Now if I could spend a day on the track, with my own car, I'd easily pay $300 for the experience. Hell, I've paid $100 to race a 12hp kart in a one hour enduro. Now, a 320+ hp twin turbo for 5-6 hours on a real road course. Priceless!?
I could probably scrounge up another Talon and an Audi A4 to add to the mix. Where's w3apon? Any of his connections at Race City be able to give us some insight on how to make this happen, or to find out if there are any other clubs looking for additional cars to make their track day happen?

I dont really have connections at race city, I just go to the secret street like most others. I think there might be folks if we post on beyond or albertacars, but we would be getting mostly Honda and VW crowd I think.

Just an FYI, but the Beyond track days last year were $200 for a full day of racing on the track (with your car naturally :D). That included instructions for newcomers and was for around 30 cars I believe.

There is a Z car club in town, not sure how strong the following is though. I noticed a Z car club poster when I was at Import Car Specialists one time.

I could post on abcars, and beyond to see if we can get some "hondas" to join up. But DSM Power is right, we'll most likely need around 30 cars or some major sponsors to make this affordable ($200 - 300 range).

was talking over the idea with w3apon on the weekend.
A track day is going to be way to expensive. We'll have to pay for an ambulance, insurance etc. as well.

If everyone can show up on Friday night we can all head to secret street?
We were thinking a Bragg creek cruise, since it isn't that far. A Banff/Canmore cruise would be cool also.

So it could be a cruise in the morning/afternoon.
Then heard over to the Urban Dream show..(or we can enter as a team???)
There is an Urban dream party that night also. Which should be cool.

Should this be just a 1 day gathering, or should we make a whole weekend of it?

kinda off topic here, but any you guys seen that 95 red TT for sale in Westhills area?? 37k kms......immaculate cond....if i had the coin it would be sitting in my garage.....he s asking 36....i saw single shot exhaust with a dummy pipe out the right side for looks......i called him.....nice guy, but he has his boost set at....ahem, 20 psi...stock turbo's and fuel......Stillen dp and a boost gauge......i told him that when he hit fuel cut on a regular basis...which he said he did...that thats kind of a bad thing....:whoa:

June 13th (for those who are interested and will be in town)

Friday night...
9:00pm meet at Race city speedway for Secret Street
you can go through tech inspection until 10:30 if you're interested in racing.


Saturday...

Urban dream.

-Roll/setup is from 7 - 10am. (uggh).
-Show during the day, hang out at the show, etc.
-Evening, short city cruise and then head off to the Silent Rage (urban dream) after party at Outlaws.

Sunday.....

-morning (11ish) cruise to Bragg Creek, or Banff. Stop for some group photos along the way :)
-Lunch in Banff, hang out for a bit then cruise back to Calgary.

So, show up for the day, 2 days, 3 days...your choice. If anyone wants me to look into hotel accommodations let me know ASAP. Or stay at someones house??? Any people willing to volunteer?
Also any changes/suggestions for the itinerary...let me know. Sorry everything is so last minute.

Too bad you missed it Davin. How many times do you get to run the 1/4 mile against a 3 month old Viper???? Just ask W3apon. He had him till the last couple hundred feet. It was great just watching the Dodge vs Dodge showdown. W3apon and AutoCad had a couple good runs against each other too. The rest of us wimps just watched from the stands

Yeah my best time was my first run of 13.7 with a 1.8 60', after that I couldnt get traction anymore and my 60' times were 2.1-2.3.
My worst run of the night was against the viper, I would have had him if I had done the 13.7 again, damit. But it was sooo cool just to race him and watch him reel me in the last 100 feet ! hehe

Fantastic camera work...hehe! ;)

The video may not show it, but the Omni totally annihilated the Viper by a much wider margin than the camera showed.

Now W3apon, remember you can't challenge that Omni until you totally destroy the Viper first.
