Hi ... I just picked up the '92 Yellow Stealth TT that many of you may have seen in the autotrader (low kms and the ad said 500HP) with the double spoiler.

I'm really happy with it overall ... it's much faster than the NT I had 2 years ago.

First question I have is about oil changes. I know everyone preaches about synthetic oil and keeping the turbos clean, but I don't plan on driving the car hard everyday and I have a turbo timer. I know a place that has an oil change package and I'm thinking of using regular oil (penzoil) and changing every 2000 kms. Is this a bad idea?

Second, I think I'm going to need some help with my car in assessing what exactly it has and what kind of boost I can run. From the looks of it and what the owner told me ... it has exhaust, boost controller, fuel pump, blow-off valve, piston ring/engine re-inforcements, wires, k&n and I was told it can run up to 25 psi safely ... it's currently set for 16.

Can someone tell me what the stock psi is for a '92 TT and how much is safe to run.

thanks

Do you have upgrade injectors and Fuel pump as well as a fuel controller (with just upgraded fuel pump it wont really help since youll be maxing out the stock injectors). If so you can run 18psi but it wont hold to that on stock turbos. Stock you can go probably to 14.5 psi but it will only hold to 11 again. Synthetic oil is overrated. Just dont go back and forth from regular to synthetic, just stick to one. Also get 10w30 .. never go to 5w30 its too think and youll get the worst lifter tick ever.

Are you sure the engine is built, pistons etc.. if so you can definitely boost up to 25 with bigger turbos.

looks like a nice car though, congrats!

hi ... to be honest, I can't tell if they're upgraded injectors or if there's a fuel controller.

yes, the engine was "built to boost". I talked to the mechanic (work as done at Japan Automotive) and he said each cylinder can take about 150 HPs easily.

hmm ... I think synthetic is good ... don't get me wrong ... I'm just not worried about taking milliseconds off my time and more concerned with fun driving and longevity ... I'm glad you agree :> yup ... 10w30 except before I store the car for the winter, then I'll run 5w30 so the oil will circulate well I run it in the winter when the roads are dry.

I was also told there are new/bigger turbos in the car, but I can't tell ... it's set to boost at 16 or 17 right now.

I can't wait till the next meet so I can get some advice. Thanks for the reply.

Well, the stock injectors/pump are only good for about 15psi. Any higher you'll hit fuel cut, then then maybe throw a rod, hehe. There's a few members in the Toronto area, see if any of them can check the car out for you, and give you a better idea of what's in there, and what you can and cannot run.

And the Stock turbo's leo, can run 16-17-18 psi no problem with upgraded fuel components. Not efficient you say?? Tell that to the 11 second runs people have made on 9b turbo's with upgraded fuel, and BPU mods.

Congrats on the car. Do you have any pics.

pete thats exactly what i said.. 18 psi on stock turbos with upgraded fuel... 14.5 on stock turbos stock fuel!

I called about that car. Seemed kind of...shady...They couldn't tell me what was exactly in it. Maybe a case of them just throwing money at it and being clueless, but still.

25 PSI = BOOM if it doesn't have an upgraded fuel system.

I was looking at that car, I actually called but you had gotten to it first.

I don't like the 2 wings on the back, and I really wondered what he had done to get 500hp. I was interested in it though, but there is a supra coming available that I am more interested in.

However, I would hate to rain on your parade but with the mods you listed that car is nowhere near 500hp (crank or wheel). The only power mods you have is the intake, exhaust and boost controller. The other mods are more preventative modifications. You are probably sitting closer to 380hp at the crank. Hell, the car isn't even full BPU (no down pipe). It looks like he may have had the engine rebuilt recently with new valves/pistons etc., but I would be curious to know why (the 16-25psi statements lead me to a certain way though).

Without injectors or fuel management (like an SAFC, emanage etc.) you are not going to be able to run any more then 15 psi without detonating your engine. 25psi is pretty much insane to even try without injectors and fuel management, and impossible without new turbos. Once you get over 17psi they just blow hot air. Plus the turbos can only hold 15psi until about 4800rpms, then it dives to 11-12psi to redline.

I would like to see the car in the hopes I am proven wrong, and if that is the case I would eat my words.

Anyway, congrats on the new purchase. And best of luck. :)

Once I get my plates on the car and the insurance on ... I'll take it back to the mechanic (Japan Automotive performance) that did all the work so he can write out all the specs and tell me exactly what he thinks I'm putting to the wheels.

The double spoiler I wasn't too fond of either, but I don't know if I'll bother taking off the stock spoiler.

The lady that sold it to me was really great, she was very helpful and in no way tried to mislead or hide anything.

The emissions passed with a Co2% reading of zero. The owner even put on two new front tires (245-45-17) when the mechanic said it may not pass certification.

The car was pretty mint underneath and the interior is clean and really is indicative of the low kms on the car 63K.

The engine was rebuilt/upgraded because of a spun bearing in the turbos. The car has a nice custom sub setup and also a nice LCD/CD head unit.

I'm not too fond of pastel yellow, but I couldn't pass up this low km deal.

The owner also gave me a complete setup of Stealth stickers and Greddy gauges which she bought and intended to put on ... not sure how much they're worth.

Overall, I'm happy with the car ... I'm looking forward to the next gathering so I can get some second opinions and a confirmation that I got a pretty good deal.

cheers

yeah you should take off the Stock spoiler if you have 2 on..It is really easy to take off but you would need something to cover the screw holes on the trunk...Im thinking of taking mine off and just having no spoiler at all;)

Dude, the color is an AMAZING color. I love that color.

And one thing, the engine was rebuilt because of a spun bearing IN THE ENGINE, not the turbo, hehe. You'd rebuild the turbo ONLY if it seizes (or buy a new one), not the entire engine.

Can't wait to see pics.

there's bearings in the engine ??? :>

the car looks pretty much stock on the outside except for the spoiler ... no skirt, no rims, no new bumpers ... so there's really not much to see ... and yellow is okay, but not my colour of choice ... but sometimes in life ... you gotta just drive the good deal that was given to you.

cheers

Yeah, lol, connector rod bearings. When people get rod knock, that's because of a spun connector rod bearing.

Congrats on the car though, hope you enjoy it as much as all enjoy ours.

The injectors would be a little harder to tell, but if you have a fuel controller, there will be some sort of electronic do-hicky inside the cabin, that just doesnt look stock. If you have an electronic boost controller, it will be similar to that.
If you dont have anything like that inside the car, then you may just have a manual boost controller. Is there a Boost guage that isnt stock? (not the one in the centre of the dash)
