Hey Guys,
LONG STORY WARNING
So when I bought my imported piece of shit RHD car, the transmission was in rough shape, there was synchro mesh in a couple of the gears, and it was harsh shifting into the other gears.
Finally, one day I went to put her into first and she just wouldn't engage, I had the car towed to Mr. Transmission (Formally on McLeod trail, now near Chinook Mall) and had them check it out. Turned out that the oil slinger was busted, and sure enough a couple of the synchros were messed up pretty bad (the oil slinger failure caused other damage inside).
Ok, so the guy tells me, complete rebuild required, and $4,500 later I have my car back with pretty much a new transmission and what I was told is a 2 year, 40,000km warranty (written right on the receipt.) This was approximately a year and a half ago.
That brings us up to last week, I go to pull my car out, and after putting the car into reverse, I get nothing, seems like its just in neutral, revving and not stalling when trying to engage the gear. Shitty right? Called up AMA, had the car towed to Mr. Transmissions new location in Chinook and the guy, before he even puts the car on the lift, has the balls to tell my dad "your kid must really beat on this car." Now, understand one thing, I paid for this car, not my parents, not an inheretance, nothing of the sort, it came out of my wallet, as do all of the repairs, this car has never been raced, and I take pretty damn good care of it (I have to, I need it to get to work everyday).
Well, this conversation occured two weeks ago, and he hadn't called so I called him yesterday (I had also asked him to check the condition of the clutch, as it was the original one when I purchased the car) and this is what he says, "Car needs a new clutch, that'll be $500, the reverse slide needs to be replaced (which was replaced during the rebuild), and I'm not going to be able to cover this repair under warranty, because the car has been abused". I asked him how he had come to that conclusion, and he said because the clutch is worn down... (A. It's the original clutch, B. Ummm, doesn't additional clutch wear usually mean the clutch is taking the majority of the abuse, not the gears themselves.) On top of this, he tells me he can't find the part, so I'm on my own to find it (a part which he easily replaced before).
I'm at my wits end, what do you guys think, is he justified, or am I getting the old runaround. I'm thinking of filing a complaint with AMVIC and seeing what they can do about it.
Anyone know where I can get a Reverse Slide for a 1991 Mitsubishi GTO VR4 Transmission .
Thanks for letting me vent!
