when I bought something a couple years ago, I asked the shipper to put it down as a gift so I could save about $50 on the taxes:)
I had to pay a $50 gift tax:rolleyes:

I always insist that they ship USPS. It is always cheaper for shipping and when it comes if they even make you pay at all it is a flat $5.00 fee on top of paying duty but honestly I rarely have to pay duty. sure beats all the hidden brokerage fees and other crap that UPS and FedEx zap you with

i got to learn this first hand
What did you buy?
I have a friend in Bellingham I get stuff shipped to and hand carry it up.
You can also get a US P.O. Box for like $20/yr if you plan on donig more than normal.
Just a thought.
i bought two front half shafts, at checkout came to like $140 without shipping cause there was a deal. by the time i had it in my house it came to 340$ which still saves me $60 if i bought em here but dam! ill have to look into that next time i get something expensive

There is a possible class action law suit being filed against UPS because of their brokerage fees. See here if interested: http://www.classaction.ca/content/actions/ups.asp
