Everyone, list potential mods for your cars if money was no object.

Personally, I'm keeping an eye on the header/downpipe situation over on 3si.org. It's more of a realistic type of future mod, not a "if money was no object" type of thing.

Where do I begin...
My favorite 3S cars have all been the JDM modded ones, like the Puma GTO, M Factory M16, Bee Racing Drag GTO, and Kaze Samurai. So mods I want are Kaze front end/Pit Road M rear body, Abflug Wing, Volk TE-37 18" rims, CF hood and Mirrors, HKS Dragger exhaust and HKS full staging upgrades, Eibach suspension or HKS.
Realistically, I'll have to make my own body parts, custom exhaust with maybe an HKS Dragger muffler, CF stuff is still very likely, Eibach Springs, minor engine upgrades(mostly bolt-on stuff) and I may have to lower my expectations for rims/tires(Volks'll run me at least $6000 with tires :whoa: :( ).

By the way Jaclyn, did you say you installed a sub box? How is it? I've been contemplating getting an 8" Bazooka Tube.

I haven't been able to install the sub as of yet, just not enough free time. Hopefully it will pound for a 10".

For me, some basic mods will be the clutch, Borla exhaust, Apexi S-AFC, stuff like that, until I get some serious cash flow happenin':p

My dad's friend has the pearl yellow stealth you may have seen around. He suggested that instead of a fuel regulator, you can put a resistor on one of the plugs that can trick the computer to put forth more gas resulting in a easy 35 extra HP, it also tricks the computer to put out more horsepower when cold too. I'll be doing that soon too.

I hear ya. I would do the murcielago mod also. There are 2 here in town, DSM power and I saw one a while ago and stopped to take some pics.

Murcielagos in Calgary!, all we have in the 'Peg is a 2000 F355, and you can count all the Lotuses and Lambos on one hand, pretty sad :(

Jaclyn, was the sub box you got the Infinity BassLink box, the write-ups I read were pretty good and interestingly it has a radiator panel so if you mount it on to a solid surface the bass will resonate more. The other good thing about it was the servo-controlled coils which greatly increases SQ/Sound Quality, and eliminates muddy-sounding Bass.

You got it, I heard good reviews on it too. Hell, there's a pic of a 3/S in the adverstisement, it should sound awesome in the Unicorn!

Uh-oh. :p Not the resistor mod again. Do a google search and I won't lecture you- this time. :p

Did he by chance buy it locally fromt he guy down the street from you uncles?

Money is always an object unfortunately. :(

The toy "VR4/TT" is going to be running something like 13g's or DR500's. I'll just be shooting for high 11's. I also plan on a carbon fiber driveshaft, super light weight 17 inch rims, CB hood and a bunch of other weight reduction that doesn't take away from the apperance of the car. Hopeing for about 450HP at the crank and 3400 pounds.

Jaclyn, do you know a guy named Brian or Ryan? He's fairly tall, shaved head (not quite bald), drives a newer mx-6(dark blue, slammed). Just curious, he mentioned you tonight in class. He asked what I drove, and then if I knew you. Just curious.

Did he say he knew me? Cuz he doesn't ring a bell, unless he just got that car. Otherwise, no.

Hey Ted, is the resistor mod a junkyard mod, like home-grown, low-class?? Not worth it?
The guy with that Stealth was my dad's best man, he had a schweet Cuda back in the day, don't know where he bought his Stealth though.

He never said he knew you, just implyed it. I guess he was talking with you about vr-4's and stuff. He worked at that Convergys (sp?) place too. That's all I know. He talked like you guys were buds.

Kay....if he's the Ryan I'm thinking of, yeah I know him, he used to drive an Isuzu Impulse, does he have like reddish hair? I know him through his brother Matt with a T/A convertible.

abax44
04-23-03, 10:23 AM
Yeah, it's reddish I think and super short. Lives on his own, they have a rottie, damn I learned a lot about him in one night. :p He was kind of a weiner too.

lady3kgt

Hmm, I guess I know him, I'm thinking of Ryan Lawson. I never knew that he lived on his own though. How do you know him?

He's was in my class yesterday. He said he's on his own now, and moving back home soon.

Gotcha, I'm pretty sure it's the same guy...yeah, he is kind of a weiner and so is his brother...:p

Sorry to pull your thread off topic so much.

One last thing, you still have the car polish stuff you were selling last year?

lady3kgt
04-23-03, 10:36 AM
I think so, but not many because we haven't got another shipment in because we have to buy 5 CASES at a time! I'll check into it, I can't remember how much we were charging.

abax44
04-23-03, 10:43 AM
5 cases at a time, that's crazy. Last year I think you were charging $20, could be wrong though.

lady3kgt
04-23-03, 10:44 AM
I think it was 20 for one, then 35 for two, 45 for three and so on, just decreasing my $5 each time, but i'll see how many bottles we have later.

Sounds good, thanks.

No problemos, this stuff is the shit, you won't be disappointed. I'll get back to you on the stock.

Jaclyn, i'll have to try some too...next time we meet...

as for mods, if money was no object, i'd do lambo doors/targa, use a T-56 and make it RWD :D. Then i'd be happy :D.

Everything else i'll probably do, but may have to wait 6 yrs till i get outta school and buy a turbo. or NSX, depends on finances.

Hey guys/lady,
I just did an engine ground mod and I strongly recommend every one else do this mod, seriously, I gained probably close to 10% HP increase, the engine runs smoother, throttle response is a bit quicker, the stereo is louder, the lights are all brighter, I can't say enough good things about it. It cost me about $100 to buy all the parts (bought all gold-plated parts so it can be done cheaper if money's an issue), but it's worth every penny if you ask me.

so you ran a new ground wire from your engine to your battery and/or chassis?

LOL I have a 1/0 gauge wire from my battery to the firewall! and a 4 gauge wire to engine!

i dunno about 10HP:rolleyes: though:) that seems like it comes from the book of rice, lol, the same book that says Type R stickers adds 5HP, lol

What did you spend $100 on exactly?

If your original ground wires are corroded (especially at the battery) it will make a big difference like Geoff describes. However, cleaning the factory battery wiring (be sure to clean your + terminal too) has the same effect. I clean my battery terminals about once every 3 months or so.

I good way to check is a volt meter, just measure the resistivity at various points in the car .vs. the neg. battery terminal. You'll be surprised how much resistance goes up after a few months of corrosion build-up (note that my stereo system makes my problem about 10x worse than a stock car).

The wires are good insurance against ever having to clean things so often. However, ground is only 1/2 the resistance equation, be sure to clean your battery power terminal too!

On a side note, our cars actually come with really good grounding from the factory. I was amazed at all the extra ground points we have in our cars when reading the shop manuals. However, after 10+ years the contact points tend to corrode.

I've also got 1/0 running to the back of the car plus a few F's worth of capacitence (hope the garage guys remember that or they're in for a bit of a 'shock' when they disconnect the battery! :p).

I've often wondered if it would be worth upgrading the alternator +/- cables to 1/0g.

Laugh if you want but MY car is running far better than before, the $100 was for 2 $20 gold-plated battery post terminals from Future shop, a dozen 4-gauge gold-plated wire end loops and about a dozen feet of 4-gauge amp wire cut into 6 lengths (from the firewall to the negative post of the battery to the intake plenum, to the fuel rail, to the alternator mount/engine block, to the device right in front of the throttle body and back down to the transmission case).

There are about 5 factory grounds, but they're very small gauge wire, and the power increase I noted was significant, around 10%, not 10 HP.

One other thing, I was prompted to do this mod by several guys on cruise night that I know (I was going to do it eventually but they got me hyped up to do it sooner).

One of them drives a Mark IV Supra Turbo and the other drives an '02 WRX and the both of them noted improvements on their cars as well as their friends' cars (Subarus, Nissans, VWs) and highly recommended I do the same.

I'm sure a lot of the improvement came from the fact as Ted said that my grounds were deteriorating to begin with, but it doesn't explain why newer cars also report gains as well except that the OEM ground wires are limited by what they can do, even RalliArt makes a kit for the WRC Evos, and they definetly aren't a "Ricey" company.

I posted some pics on 3si.org in the Modifications forum under Front Wheel drive cars (yes, I know, I know), the title is of course, Gounding Kit, here's one pic,

Sorry the picture quality is bad but you can see the red wire from the top plenum, to the fuel rail, from the alternator area and back up near the throttle.
