C'mon, you live in Alberta, land of the open blue skies. Forget the test pipe, buy a downpipe, or have one custom made for around $350. That gets rid of your cat completely, you can gut the pre-cats and you're way ahead. :D
Unless you want to keep the cat so that you could sell it to someone that had smog checks. Now you wouldn't do that would you........

The test pipe, is a straight pipe that is put in place of the main cat. So yes, with the increased flow you do gain hp, and it will be louder. Just hope you don't have emissions testing.

hmmm is the stock Cat held together by flanges or is cutting involved???
i'd love to run the test pipe and just connect the main Cat when i do emissions!;)

It is held together by flanges. If you order a ready made test pipe, you can easily swap it on and off, (if you can get the "bolts from hell" undone.) If you get a custom test pipe made from a muffler shop they will most likely cut off the flanges from the cat, and use them on the new test pipe.

Only going off of memory from the last time mine was on the hoist. I think that the rear of the cat, where it attaches to the remainder of the exhaust, had a flange on it. I don't think there is a flange on the front part. You could always measure the length of the test pipe, and then cut a similar sized section of the cat out, and have appropriate flanges welded on. This would allow you to change things each year for inspection. The test pipe will certainly give your car a louder growl/bark.

Again, my comments re: flanges, are from someone with a great memory. I remember everything that happened within the last 2 minutes. Anything before that is ancient history....

Good luck finding an exhaust shop in Ontario that will remove a catalytic converter. If you've got connections, you might be able to get it done, but as I remember, the larger muffler places wouldn't touch it becuz of legal issues. They'll replace it, but not eliminate it.

But here's a great solution. Monopoly, come out to the Western Canada gathering in June, pick the test pipe up from Domesticwildric, and have any of the local muffler shops do the work for you. We've got so much fresh air here......;)

Well since I generated enough hype for a test pipe...does anyone want to buy one from me?....I bought mine for $66 Cdn.. .message me and I will see what I can do for you guys? ...but I still haven't installed mine so...I can't really answer question about mounting and stuff... But I was told you just unscrew/bolt the existing cat...then it is a direct fit with new bolts that come with the kit...

Ya, you just unbolt the 4 bolts that hold on your catalytic. drop it out, and put in a straight section of pipe the same length, with flanges on the ends. put the 4 bolts back in. Done

If you want it done in the GTA, i can tell you lots of places that will do it. I got mine at Majestic Muffler in Scarborough. I read also somewhere here that someone is selling a used cat. Get that and just gut out the stuff inside. that way if anyone looks under the car, it looks like you are legal. ;)

wow this looks like an EZ job...im at work right now and i'll check my cat to see if it's held on by Flanges...If so i guess im in luck! and if not looks like it'l need some work done on installing some on

ill think ill get flanges installed on the testpipe and cat..So it'l be an Easy swap when it comes to emission time!

i wil try and do it myself, if not i will try and see if theres any local shops in Mewmarket that would do it if not ill call Majectic muffler

whats there phone# eddie?

Ah, good to see the muffler shops have relaxed a bit in Ontario. When I was there 15 years ago, I couldn't get anyone to remove the cat from my Rx-7.

As for removing the cat, make sure that you soak the bolts from hell that hold it on with a good penetrant. Don't use WD-40, but something like Liquid Wrench, or even better if you can find it, is PB Blaster. The longer you can leave the stuff soaking, the better off you'll be.

You'll definitely like the end result! :D
