View Full Version : Got my springs!

memystealthandi

Well, I picked up my springs today (intrax). Now any of the guys in the "calgary" crew feel like helping me install them???

I couldn't believe a shop in town actually had stealth lowering springs in stock, and I even double checked the part number. Props to speedtech!

$370cdn. Not that bad, pretty comparable to 3sxperformance which are $239US plus shipping (~$382cdn+shipping)

It will give me a 1.5 - 1.75 inch drop. Won't act like my sig unfortunately...:( That's the next step in the evolution...

Sheesh, I'm surprized DSM Power hasn't jumped on this opportunity to spend a weekend helping out. What kinda friend is that?!?!?!?! lol!

What is your time frame? If you can wait a couple of weeks, I'll be able to offer up my garage, with all the tools you need, compressor, and a big empty fridge that needs some attention....

That'll give you enough time to convince DSM into assisting. Ha ha!!!

New struts as well?

That would be cool man, I'm sure the 3 of us can figure it out, if you don't mind lending the garage space.

I'm sticking with the stock struts for now, and hoping they're still in decent shape. I guess we'll see.

Guess I can't install this weekend...damn snow...:(

This snow has been ridiculous. The number of cars stuck on the road today was insane!

How does Sat May 10 sound? My wife will be at work all day, so we'll have lots of garage space. Let me know...

Ha ha, I go away for one day and look what happens... :p

I'd be up for helping you do this install. We'll need to rent/borrow a spring compressor to do it properly. Unless you want to try the "hands free" option! :whoa: I'm game whenever this white crap melts again. :(

Right on! The 11th would be better for me? I can see if I can get the 10th free if that doesn't work.

The 11th of May is Mother's Day. That would be a death sentence for me......

Let me know what you can do. If not, we can find another day that works.

Good point about the spring compressor! I hadn't thought about that, but it's a necessity.

Oh right, sorry didn't realize it was mother's day. I'll try to get the 10th free! We can borrow srping compressor from CT.

Hey, how long do you think it will take us? I have to be downtown at 3:15 on the 10th..?

No matter how I answer, I'll get that question wrong. I've never even thought about removing the springs, so I don't have a clue. When I did my Rx-7, it took me a complete weekend...:D

I do have the workshop manual, so I can read up, ahead of time. I wouldn't count on being able to get downtown by 3:00, tho. These things seem to have a habit of taking way longer than they should. Having said that, we'll probably be done by noon! lol!!!

Make sure you put tons of Liquid Wrench on all the bolts way ahead of time, to make it easier/quicker.

memystealthandi
04-28-03, 01:01 AM
ok, I'll switch my plans on Sat. to Sunday, so we'll have all day...lol. Will that work? Or I can switch it to Saturday morning, and I'll be free by 11.

Snortin93
04-28-03, 07:25 AM
You know how your spark plug change went, so it's up to you...lol! We probably should set aside one whole day, just in case. But it's your call; I'm good either way...

If you can pick up the spring compressor & some beer, we should be ready to do some damage! ;)

Let me know how you want to proceed.

04-28-03, 11:58 AM
Uh yeah, might want to book the whole day off (knowing us  ). Blake H. will be in town on the 10th & 11th, but I don't know if he'll be able to help or not.

memystealthandi

Ok, the 10th it is...
I will book the whole day off on the 10th, and I'll bring the beer, and spring compressor. (notice I mentioned the beer first??)

I've also talked to my buddy with the 90 Talon TSI. He said he'd try and stop in to lend a hand. He also wants to check out DSM Power's ride.

I live in Sundance. So you'll still be sleeping as memystealthandi is making the road trip down to my place...lol!

I'll give you both my address and a map, as we get closer to the May 9-10 weekend.

Now if we can only get the temperature above freezing, we're set. Worst case, I've got a heater.....

I'll send directions shortly!

[i[Actually I'm trying to get 220V into my garage so I can hook up an air compressor too.[/i]
You're going big time! I spent some time researching what was available, how much I was going to use it, and how much I had in my wallet, then decided to get a 110V Craftsman 6hp unit. I was drooling over the big units tho!

memystealthandi
04-29-03, 07:39 PM

They are figgin huge springs. I was shocked when I saw them...:D

So you guys didnt do it today?

I was instaling 220V in my girlfriends condo townhouse so she could use her washer dryer and it took me all day until just now. I'm still covered in drywall.

Let me know when u are going to attempt again!

yep. I'm nursing a concussion....I haven't been driving.

I went driving last night, hit a huge pot hole, and put a 1 inch dent in 1 rims. Looks like I'm off to Alberta Wheel repair.....again...:)

I guess that's why you shouldn't drive with a concussion?

Snortin93
05-05-03, 12:08 AM
yep. I'm nursing a concussion....

Good day on the slopes?!?! Or did you tell the wife-to-be how much you've spent on the Stealth lately??????

I'm taking my son to Lake Louise tomorrow; snow reports look good, and I've got 2 free passes, so we've gotta go!

Maybe I don't want your rims anymore........Hope the fix isn't too painful (for your head or the rim)

memystealthandi
05-05-03, 12:43 AM
nah, I had my black belt test in martial arts, and have a concussion as the result of that. I passed my test though!!!

The rims will be $150 to fix.

Everything is a go for tomorrow!!

However, I did forget to mention one thing. I've got a Giant Alaskan Malamute as my resident guard dog. His name is Porter. Since we'll probably be in the garage out back it would be best to try entering thru the side gate. If he's doing his job, just talk nice to him, pet him a couple of times, and he may not eat you.... :D

I'll make sure he's been fed before hand!

I think memystealthandi had the camera, but I'm not sure if we got any shots of the actual springs. The front took a lot less time to change than the rears for some unexplained reason. Since it was a warm, sunny day and there was lots of beer in the fridge, we maintain that we took our time to do it properly...lol!

Dropping the car just made it look so much sweeter!

memystealthandi, how was the ride home? Did that front driver's side spring ever settle in, or do you still have issues with it?

the drive home was very fast along side a F355 spyder. Man that thing sounded sweet.

Still having issues with the front drivers side spring. Haven't driven my car in 2 weeks other than to your house. The spring is being checked tomorrow as well as the alignment. I should also be getting my rim back tomorrow.

Should I get the alignment done on the winter tires? It won't make a difference will it?
