Hi Guys,
Well I was parked in a parking lot today, and when I came back...I saw that somebody had hit my front bumper....but that's the least of my worries...
now when I start the car, there's a rattling and squeaky noise right when the engine kicks in.....and also when I shut down.
Furthermore, I can hear this noise when ever I shift gears, or drive in a rocky area at low speeds.
Any ideas? It's coming from the engine area for sure...
could it be transmission? or something was knocked around??
check for some metal or part of the frame that may be touching the engine!

Good post,
After my post I checked on it...and near the top part of the engine, there's a piece of metal touching the back of the engine compartment....
now also, there's a creaking/rattling sound whenever I accelerate right after changing gears...
I'm trying to see perhaps it's just the regular noise accentuated due to the change in motion with the changing of gears...but I swear..it's lower down...like where my gas pedals are....
do you think my engine mounts might have broken do to a sudden weight shift?
also, these sounds only appear during forward and back motions...when I drive through a bumpy area....it doesn't seem to make any noise
You said exactly what I was thinking.
Your engine mounts are most likely broken or bent. That sucks dude. :(

Damn....
do any of you know around how much work and how much it will cost to fix the engine mounts?
and if it includes taken out tons of parts...perhaps I'll change my clutch etc...while the tranny is out etc...
I'd like to know that too, the one on mine by the timing belt looks like it has seen better days!

anyone know how hard these are to change? i get this big 'thunk' whenever i let off the gas, and figure the engine is shifting in those 10 year old mounts.
they could be a bitch because you have to support the weight of the engine whgen you remove the mount.... also fo r time to reinstall a new mount it could be a litte tough to line the new mount up perfectly so the bolts will allign, I would say that you would be better off with some help doing this it may be tough by yourseld.
I am just guessing this now, since I have never done it before, I just think that will be the way it will go!

BTW Eddie, did you buy mounts? did you get stock or polyurathane? How much were they? where did you get them?

Well i talked to the guys at 3SX to see if i could just get the bushings and press them into my old ones, but they said they only come assembled. So you have to buy someone elses old brackets that have been painted, in order to get the bushings.
Im going to see what Mitsubishi says this week.
Monopoly, you said it made a difference in your friends Miss Tang, but what do you mean? i didnt expect a real performance gain, that is why i was thinking just stock replacements if they came as just the bushing.

lol not performance wise i guess.
the old stangs mounts were rotted though(go figure ford  ) and when he popped the hood and revved the engine it looked like that 302 was gunna jump outta the car!
we popped in the new mounts and he revved it again and the engine just stayed there!!! therefore making a big diff :D

ahhh. i gotcha.
they do make a difference performance wise cuz and they reduce wheel hop. you'll definetly feel the difff when u gas that baby!

Ive only heard of wheel hop in FWD or maybe with a solid rear end RWD. Its not a problem you should be having in a 300+HP AWD car. IF you are hopping all four wheels. you need more than bushings my clutch-dropping friend
:)
trust me engine mounts will make a nice difference you can feel;)
wether you awd-fwd or rwd, trust me it makes a pretty nice difference. Especially if yours are old a soft.
