Hello to all fellow Canadian Stealth / 3000GT owners out there.
Newbie forum user here.

I've already posted this thread on 3si.org AND the Quebec regional section, but you'll have to excuse me if I post it here again. I wanna try and get the most exposure to my thread.
Thanx.

I've a '92 stock Pearl white Stealth RT/TT that hit 100000km last year (I cried for days!), so I decided to go for the full scheduled maintenance this spring - which includes changing the timing belt.

I've already changed every filter there is to change, put in new plugs and wires, and the car is at the dealer's right now for the transfer case recall (lucky me - when I had it inspected last year, it just so happened that the transfer case gasket WAS leaking but not enough for me to repair it.)

My question is : my mechanic seems to wanna change everything accessable to him in the engine while he's there doin' the timing belt job, but what exactly DOES or SHOULD be changed? Here's a list of parts and prices I have so far (in CDN dollars):

Timing belt $274
Tensioner $152
Tensioner pulley $ 69
Drive belt $ 60
Water pump $245

Now apart from these parts, my mech. said I might need idlers and a whole bunch of assorted belts. He said he'd replace ONLY what needed replacement, but he also said he ordered over $1500 in parts from Chrysler, and THAT has me worried! The above parts total some $750, so what the hell else could be costin' ANOTHER $750?!

You owe me a beer...:D

Check the thread I made in this very forum at:

EDIT: If you plan on keeping the car more than a couple of years then CHANGE YOUR OIL PUMP! I suggest you change ALL the parts on my 60k list since they only cost $920 and they cover basically every single part that could possibly fail on that side of the engine. Also, an Alternator rebuilt is worth doing since you already have the entire side of the engine apart. An extra $100 now or $500 if the alternator dies and melts later.

I actually already HAD seen your post. Wadda ya think inspired me to write mine and conclude that I was gettin' f*cked up the @ss? Thanx a mill., dude. Don't know if I actually wanna change the oil pump (or even the water pump for that matter), but I'll see. There's a Quebec member who does mechanical work at affordable rates near by, so I might just take him up on it. :p

I've also a couple of friends in Calgary, so maybe I can actually coax them into getting those parts.

I do have one question for ya, though. The Chrysler dealer I originally went to said I needed a drive belt, but I didn't see one in your list. What the hell is it? (There might actually be some slight differences in lists since mine is a turbo model... don't know).

LOL, ah I see.

The drive belt is just the alternator/AC belt. I talk about it a little bit down in my post. Mitsu didn't have one so I had to get one from Dodge.
