Hey Guys

This winter I think I want to install a front mount intercooler on my 92 TT.

I would like to keep the factory foglights and am looking for anyone who has installed one of these and as well as what one will be my best bang for my buck!

I want to eventually move up to larger td04 turbos but I figure I will try to get the most out of the stock 9b's first.

Suggestions please! :D

I'm pretty sure you're going to have to loose the fog lights, as far as bang for your buck the CX racing FMIC kit goes for around 550$ + shipping but I've heard that it has some fitment issues

TD04 + FMIC = pressure pulsing, FMIC slow down the spool-up and could make your car overheat. Expect pressure drop too.

I'm running SMIC with DR750's (the biggest TD04), a good quality SMIC set-up with shrouding is very efficient, more then most cheap FMIC out there.

As DG said on 3si : But the SMIC has a serious advantage over the FMIC - it has a much cleaner airflow path both into and out of the core. It is possible on a SMIC setup to actually make the "heat exchanger" aspect of the design work rather than just rely on the thermal mass in "heat sink" mode. Properly ducted, a SMIC setup should _never_ heat soak.

If you want a good set, I'm selling my Dejon's almost new for about half the price it's worth. Why ? Because I'm getting another SMIC set, Eugene asked me to test the new model he will be offering. If it was not for that offer (If I wanted to change I could have gone with ETS FMIC but choosed not), the Dejon's would stay in place, they are of very very good quality, bar and plates, they flow extremely well, no pressure drop. Tested them up to 27psi, making probably over 600whp Matt said.

Don't forget the quality of an IC is not measured by it's size.

Consider this.

^^^ Thanks for the advice! My reason for changing the intercoolers is that they seem to seriously drop off in performance.

I have taken the car to the track a couple times over the last month and the car is wicked quick off the line and up to the far end of second gear, then it seems to fall on its face the rest of the way down the track... seems like the intercoolers are heating up and losing efficiency.

And I was looking at your SMIC cores but then I gotta find piping for them too!

it's not your intercoolers that are making your car fall on it's face it's the little 9B's that are stopping you, upgrade your turbo's and you won't have this problem, also in my opinion getting a FMIC before you upgrade your turbo's is a bad idea, the 9b's I have in my car can't hold 12psi to redline with my FMIC

You can fit them on stock piping with some piping modification!

Alright then, I guess I look for bigger turbos this winter!

I am going to install a wideband and boost gauge in the next couple of weeks and try a manual boost controller to max out the stock 9b's.

Hoping to stay with the TD04 housing just for simplicity.

I should do a leak test as well just to make sure all my stock piping is still sealed!

now you're talking!
thats the way to go.

and once you choose the turbo, you'll see the route you want for intercooller :)

do you have a datalogger already?

I have one of the palm pilot dataloggers but have been unable to get it to work recently.. not sure why :(
