Does anyone know what all the factory security does in a vehicle?

Ie. Disable starter etc..

Anyone know?

Today must be my day to read the owner's manual. I knew I'd finally get some use out of it. For a 93 Stealth it states:

The theft-alarm system is designed to provide protection from unauthorized entry into the car. This system is operated in three stages; the first is the "armed" stage, the second is the "alarm" stage, and third is the "disamered" stage. If triggered, the system provides both audible and visual alarm signals as well as disabling the vehicle starter circuit.

The alarm will be activated if any of the following occur while the car is parked and the system is armed.
1. The driver's or passenger's door is opened without using the key or the remote control switch.
2. The rear hatch is opened without using the key.
3. The engine hood is opened from the outside.

That's what it's supposed to do. I know of one or two cars that don't...

Damn, I turn the page and there's more.

[i]The alarm is activated in the following way.
1. The headlights pop up, and begin to blink on and off for three minutes. After 3, headlights shut off.
2. The horn will sound intermittently for 3 minutes.
3. The starter circuit will be shut off, disabling starting of the car without using the key.

After 3 minutes of pain and agony, the alarm will then be rearmed.

Ok, I;m done....:p

The factory alarm is a pain in the ass if you have an aftermarket keyless entry and alarm. A couple of times I locked the door and shut it. Then I came along later, unlocked the door with the remote, opened the door and all hell broke loose! The first time it happened, it must have taken me almost the full 3 minutes to figure out you have to put the key in the door and unlock it to disable the factory alarm.
Always a humiliating experience.

I've got an aftermarket Viper alarm and I didn't know you can stop the OEM one from going off by putting the key in the door! I've had the OEM one go off sometimes.

I finally pulled the fuse by the gas peddle (10A red one) and no more OEM alaram!

Mine goes off whenever i unlock and open the passenger side door first. At first i thought it was kind of cute how he got all excited and his little headlights went up and down and his weeny horn beeped away....Reminded me of Herbie The Love Bug :p

Until you go on a first date.... Two times it went off when im trying to open the door for a lady and make a good impression. More embarassing! . And after that, i would remember, but its almost as bad cause then you have to mumble some excuse while you get in the driver side and she is still standing out in the rain

Good thing she gave me a second date. We're moving in together soon ;)

Still don't understand what you're asking.

All I was saying was that on the rare occation, I would unlock my doors with the remote and the factory alarm would go off. Don't ask me why it does this. The only way to stop it at this point is to put the key in the door and turn it, then the factory alarm stops it's screaming.

If I were to open the door with the key when the aftermarket alarm is set, then the aftermarket alarm goes off.

At the DEALERSHIP where I bought my car. I opened the door for the first time and the Alarm went haywire. I was like WTF? so I started the car with the key, pressed all of the buttons on the remote for the keyless entry about 50 times. This was with everybody staring at me in the middle of a dealership parking lot. Holy was that embarrasing, some of the employees even thought I was stealing the car....

Mine does the exact same thing! Every now and then the factory alarm just goes crazy until I use the key. :flaming:

I looked under the dash where the remote starter is, and the a clip of wires just hanging there, my guess is this is why the factory security doesnt work?
