JUNE 19th - Alberta Cruise/Meet!
details to follow.

southern alberta (calgary/lethbridge/drumheller) will meet up at deerfoot mall @ ~10am. on the road by 10:30am

northern alberta (edmonton and area) will meet up at Tim Hortons on Ellerslie and 99 Street/Parsons Road @ ~10am. on the road by 10:15am

the two groups will cruise towards each other everyone will meet up in red deer at timmies (6620 Orr Dr) @ noon time.

from red deer we will head out to sylvan lake for some lunch etc

people usually like to chat, hang out, and look at the cars, but if there is interest we can do some more cruising as a group from there as well

=================================
=================================
=================================

alright guys n gals its just about that time again. we only have a few months each year without snow on the ground so we had better make the best of them.

spring time means that people are starting to dig their cars out and (hopefully) get them out onto the streets. those lazy - er, busy - people out there will have lots of advance notice to get their cars together and ready for a meet (yes, that includes me).

id love to get a good cruise together again this year. the last year or so all of the red deer, edmonton, etc members seem to have fallen off the planet haha. still a good calgary area crew though.

if we have enough northern ab members interested, we can do another cruise up that direction to meet them in red deer or sylvan. otherwise if its just the calgary/south ab members posting in this thread we will probably do the cruise in a different direction.

as usual we will likely schedule a stop for food either at a restaurant or maybe a bbq depending on our cruise direction/destination.

dates:
june 18/19 weekend?
june 25/26 weekend?

this gives everyone LOADS of adv notice to book time off work and reschedule weddings/anniversaries, kids birthdays, invasive surgeries, etc.

post up if youre interested and have a preference for dates.

as ive mentioned for previous meets, everyone is welcome. 3s owners are a pretty easy going crowd and very friendly. we have a pretty diverse group with all ages and all models etc. newbies are welcome :) even if you dont have a 3s to bring, youre still welcome to come chat people up and check out the cars. lots of fun and some very knowledgeable members. if you need a ride, post up and im sure somebody will be willing to let you ride shotgun if needed as well.

-SRS light on
-No reverse lights(replaced reverse switch/bulbs)
-Needs to be hotwired to start, key only fires on the accessories/lights and cooling fans
-Only runs with MAF unplugged
-Fuel pump hotwired through test connector for fuel and starter jumped in order to start it

I would just pull the bulb on the SRS light, pop out the cluster and pull that biatch right out of there, they'll never look that close.

I've been told to do that a few times now, but I'd still like to know whats throwing it

GTOTTMike

Oh Okay. My friend had the SRS light on, and it turned out to be one of the plugs on the module under the center console was corroded and caked in what looked to be coffee. I'm sure you probably checked all that jazz out already.

I would like to be make it to this years meet, I've missed all of the others previously due to work, but it would be nice to get out and meet everyone.

Hey!

I'm in Edmonton but am interested.

My car is in rough shape. Picked it up in Calgary, though it's out of the US. I was hoping to replace the clutch this weekend but the friend who offered his garage and a hand doing the work is MIA. I think he realized we were in over our heads. :) I should have it running by then though. Just not sure what it will look like. It needs a lot of love. I'm thinking of spray bombing it until I can get it painted professionally next summer.

I'm actually looking forward to parking it next to other 3S cars just to go, "okay, I'm missing that. Okay, that's broken." etc. :)

So I'm in, assuming things are working on my car by then. The clutch is the only show-stopper. I was driving it for a week before that went.

Oh just working, replentishing my school funds. (and throwing parts at the car). :D
I've logged a few miles this year already. Seen a few other stealths around, don't think I have seen yours yet. Ill be sure to throw up a massive wave when I do. Haha

I've finished replacing the clutch in my VR-4. What a nightmare that was. But it's done, and I've replaced all of the fluids, and it's like it's not even the same car. (I say replaced fluids... not entirely accurate since when I pulled the drain plug on the transfer case, a couple dribbles came out and that was about it...)

The car looks hideous though. I'm working on the bodywork but it's definitely a work in progress. Right now, the car is green, with a white driver's door and fender, black headlight covers, a primer-colored passenger fender, Bondo on the rear driver's quarter, Bondo on the passenger door, and a multicolored front bumper cover that was factory white, then painted red, then painted silver, then painted green.

So if I can make it, don't laugh. :)

GTOTTMike

I think you'll find were not the type of people to laugh at work in progress cars, we all fully understand the territory that comes with owning these cars, and I have never had an issue with anyone that I've met, they've always been extremely friendly and helpful!

I've owned my GTO for 5+ years now, and it's still a work in progress, I've spent more money fixing, replacing, and servicing than I've been able to put into improving it. It's the work you put into these cars that gives you the most respect for them, you rarely ever see two 3S cars done up the same.

That is true. I was being silly more than anything. I've seen a lot of maturity in the forums here, which is appreciated.

I drove my car home last night after it spent the last three weeks in Edmonton since the clutch gave out. I made it one block before an intercooler hose blew off. Oops. Managed to find the problem and get the hose back on, while in business attire, and then limped it back to my friend's place where I could do a proper repair. (I grabbed the car while he was at work and had to wait for him to get home, otherwise I would have just walked and picked up tools from his place.)

I do like the crowd here though. I'm the Canadian coordinator for the Chevrolet Avalanche Fan Club of North America and was the Vice-President of the Alberta Chapter for the Canadian Hummer Club and have been blessed in both of those two to have met many wonderful people. I've dabbled with the thought of picking up different vehicles over the years and have checked other online car forums and sometimes, it seems they're populated solely by children.

I hope to sand down most of my car this weekend, fill in some small rock chips (as I don't fancy sanding the entire car down to bare metal, the only other way I can see eliminating the rock chips) and have it at least a single color within one or two weeks. Right now, the car is a mess with its factory green, then a white passenger door, white fender, primer passenger fender, black headlight covers, Bondo on the drivers quarter, Bondo on the passenger door, and a bumper cover that was factory white, then red, then silver, then green. I ran out of urethane-safe paint stripper and so now the front bumper cover is "all of the above." I nicknamed my car Derpy since when I bought it, one headlight wouldn't go down, and a friend looked at my car two days ago and commented, "It looks like Derpy barfed." :)

The only real concern I have for the car mechanically is that when idling, oil pressure is only two or three ticks on the gauge. I'm going to try to find a way to get an actual pressure reading in case it is the case (which reads a bit above half when driving) but I've been reading that it might be the oil pump if the pressure really is low. I really cannot afford that repair right now, if that is the case. :(

Anyway, sorry to hijack the thread. ;) I hope to see you guys soon!

awesome looks like people are all starting to get their cars up and running so hopefully we will have a decent turn out.

looks like june 19th will be the day.

since we have some of them edmonton folk interested, we will likely have two groups meet up in the morning; one in calgary (with the drum + leth people) and one in edmonton. we will then all head to red deer and meet up there to continue on to sylvan lake.

3 weeks advance notice, so make sure youre free on the 19th!

the plan will sound familiar for OG members haha

dunno where the edmonton guys wanna meet up... probably south edmonton common or something?

questions?
concerns?

I'm looking forward to it! I have friends in Sylvan Lake too so much stop in for coffee. It's going to be great!

Now off to work on the stupid hood pin on my 3000 to stop the alarm from going off all the time. And hoping it's that and not a faulty switch elsewhere. D'oh!

South Edmonton Common can be a pig with the construction going on at the 23 Avenue interchange, though if we go out the south end it might not be bad. There is also the Tim Hortons on Ellerslie and 99 Street/Parsons Road. (The one that leaves South Edmonton Common from the south, but also easy to get to from Calgary Trail.)

Less traffic there too. Just my two cents. :)

surreal
06-14-11, 07:07 PM
haha thought id posted times already. sorry guys. updated first post.

aiming to get to red deer around noon and the out to sylvan for a bite to eat etc

meeting times should hopefully be late enough to give anyone coming from outside calgary/edmonton time to get into town and meet up with us :)

feel free to post or pm you phone number if you want to be sure that you dont get left behind and i can call/txt you if youre mia/late/lost/etc

if you have any 2-way walkie talkies, bring em along too. they are handy/fun when everyone is cruising together.

if you know you wont be able to make it for some reason, let me know ahead of time if possible so that we dont wait up for people.

hopefully weather is okay. dont want to reschedule unless there is severe weather. worst case we will end up in a covered parking area to check out the rides. looks like itll be warm, but some forecasts say possible showers and others say sunny haha.

That sounds good! Definitely works for me.

feel free to post or pm you phone number if you want to be sure that you dont get left behind and i can call/txt you if youre mia/late/lost/etc

I will PM you with my mobile. I'm more concerned about my car deciding to crap out. I thought my ECU was dying but when I removed it to look at it, everything looks fine.

if you have any 2-way walkie talkies, bring em along too. they are handy/fun when everyone is cruising together.

I have enough trouble driving manual to begin with, having not driven stick until I bought this car, and most of that time it's been on axle stands having work done to it. :)

I might bring a friend too if he's interested. He's a Nissan 300ZX guy, so feel free to bug him about that. He gives me enough grief about owning a Mitsubishi. :)

The car looks real bad right now, but I might have the interior in by the meet. I took it out so that I could wash it all properly, and it's now dry, but I also need to paint the car and I'm not sure how much I want to put the interior in just to pull it again next weekend. The only other issue I've had - but not in awhile - is surging and clicking from the passenger wheelwell. 3si members suggested the ECU, with the clicking being it resetting the fuel pump, hence the surging. Except my ECU looks fine. Though I did notice one wire in the harness had been cut at some point, with a one-inch wire piece taped onto the cut to fix it. Niiice. I want to get it soldered and shrinkwrapped properly but haven't had time to work on the car, or even drive it, in a week, and for two weeks prior, it's been driving fine again. Add it to the list of things to do...
