Me vs. a new Five Point Uh-oh.

so I'm minding my own business, carefully abiding all laws of course, when at a red light a new 5.0 vert pulls up beside me.
I've seen the car several times, never saw who owned it, but the driver has waved at me before (typical car-guy wave, I figured). Then I see that it's a guy I've known for years (once raced his brand new GTA with my '66 Mustang, so we go back a ways). He jokingly says "ok, this is it, let's go" and I'm like "I didn't know that was you!!!"

I ask him if it's as fast as I hear (the light has turned green, but we've just started idling ahead). He says "I dunno-let's see...you go first."
So, I'm thinking two things. First, I'd rather go from a dig than a roll, but then I don't exactly launch like Matt Monett either, so maybe a 15km/h or so roll is okay. Second, I'm about to get my ass handed to me for the first time in this car:(
(ok, three things, 'cause in the back of my mind I'm thinking that I'm glad no one's around to watch)

So I punch it, get about a length on him, then I hear him punch it. I shift, then I hear a loud BOV from his car ( :confused: ). He's still about half a length behind me. I keep going through second (by now I've heard the blow off again) then I coast- he's still about half a length behind me, then he comes up beside me and he says "yeah, that car's fast".
That's when I see the 'supercharged' script under the 5.0 on the fender...

He said he 'totally missed a shift' but I'm kinda thinking he pretty much had to totally miss the gas pedal too lol.

Oh yeah, then I was wishing a bunch of people would have been around to see it:D

Nice! I'm guessing something like that would have to have an aftermarket supercharger? Or is ford out with a new version of the GT500 already?

I was looking into it a bit, and there's a kit available for them through Ford (a warranty-approved 525 or 624 HP) for just over $7000. Hell of a bargain to me:D

I was surprised to see the 'supercharged' badging on it- it's definitely a 5.0 GT and not a GT500...beautiful car though.
I told him I wanted a ride, and he made some excuse, turned off, and disappeared- I think he felt bad that he didn't beat me (hell, if I was him, I'd have felt bad that I didn't beat me lol)


edit- I guess there's also a Roush kit that gives 550 horse, but it voids the warranty... I think I'd settle for the 525 +warranty deal:p

impressive. what boost are you running?
wonder if he had traction problems trying to punch it from 15km/h...

i would imagine that the new 5.0 would be a good fight for a bpu 3s... but boosted into the 500+ range i would expect that kinda car to pose some serious problems haha.

the ford sc kit is a screw charger i believe so sounds like his is some sort of centrifugal unit. with the high compression these engines have, they are apparently putting out well over 500 to the wheels with only a few psi. crazy!

I checked my profec, and the highest I hit since the last reset is 13.2 PSI.

When I crank it up any higher, I have a huge choke-and-sputter issue (doesn't seem like spark blowout, seems worse- could be though (the new plug wires I bought a few years ago to replace the originals are still sitting in my front closet:o )
So at that boost, I figured I'd be toast even if his car was stock-when I heard the BOV I expected him to blow past me, so I believe the 'missed shift' part, and I expect that he must have spun in first, 'cause there was no missed shift there lol.
He didn't say anything about spinning, but he wasn't sticking around to talk about it...he wanted to go sulk (j/k:D )

I was impressed when I looked up the specs on the add-on SC kits though. About 7k US for 525 horse, and $300 more for six-and-a-quarter. Nice.

sounds like could be plugs
fuel cut is pretty obvious and i dont think youd be hitting it yet at that boost

the stang sounds pretty mean. hopefully you bump into him again and get to check it out.

and dont forget that for 7k into a 3s you can probably be around the same numbers ;)

yeah I expect that it's plugs/wires ( I imagine the plugs are original, too -115k km or so now)

before he turned off he did say he'd give me a ride- I wanna check that thing out for sure:)



and I'm planning on rebuilding my '72 Duster, but then I think about what my Stealth could do if I put the money into it instead...

You beat that car?! That thing is rank! I had my GTO for a few days and he rolled up on me as I was pulling into my driveway. Sounded like the car straight out of Mad Max! He wanted to go and play, but I was having issues with my AFPR (melted gauge, dude installed it over the rear turbo:mad:)

I told him I'd catch up with him later, I expected to get my ass handed to me, but now I've gots to!

I've seen you around teetee, very nice car btw. We'll have to go for a cruise, go humiliate some 5.0's!!

Yeah, a stock 5.0 should be a close one, poor guy must have seriously blown a gear. A wins a win though:D
