View Full Version : EVO in Canada???
Anyone have any info on if this is going to make it into Canada? The local Mitsu Dealer seems to think it probably won't make it due to bumper ratings. :(

I don't have the link for the article from mitsubishi that I read but you were right on the bumper thingy, mistu would have to redesign the bumper to confir with canadian regulations, since it will be too expensive of a modification to change on the car for the amount of sales it would have in Canada it will not happen, but I'm sure the proper design will be included on the next model EVO 8 or what ever # it is at:D

damn, that sucks. But hey, at least you can import one. All you ahve to do is take a 3 hour drive to NY, pick one up, and drive it back. And like Big Boi said in another thread, importing it isn't that expensive.

That may not be that easy in it's own case, With the bumper thing known, the EVO would most likely have to be converted to canadian bumper standards in order to pass RIV (http://www.riv.ca) inspection:(
This may be a easy or a hard modification I do not know that, but I'd say you will have to change something. I am pretty sure in the case of the Mazda MX-3 Precidia(My other car:D ) when imported from the US to Canada you need to change the bumpers to pass for RIV.
Also certian cars like The Mitsubishi Starion and Dodge Conquest are not allowed to be imported, I have heard there are a few kickin around with Canadian registration, but I'd sat some strings were pulled to get them registered;)

Would that be why JDM GTO's are not allowed in canada?? And the syclone and typhoon too?
Japanese and any other car other than a US car for that matter are harder to import, not that easy at all. they fall under a different set of regulations than USDM cars. As for the Cyclone & Typhoon I don't know what the story with those guys(you are talkin bout the GM 'S' series trucks that were out in the early 90's?) If they can't be imported there must be some stupid reason, maybe info is on the RIV site for them.
There is a post somewhere on here about a JDM GTO in Canada, I think that could be registered in NFLD, although illegal I'd say you could get away with it here. The way I would go about it is to get a VIN off an old stealth and put that on the GTO then get it re-registered as a rebuilt car!!! It could be done, If i had the resources I would do it, I'd love to have a RHD GTO:D
I was at my work earlier today where my 'winter beater' is, I am in the process of doing a paint job/fix up/clean up on it and I took a pic of the rear bumper, in the pic you can see the inner bumper, i guess that is what makes a "canadian" standard 15Kph bumper
Mike:cool:
Damn that sucks, I'd like to see some driving around. Oh well.
