View Full Version : 3000GT Oil Change
Ok I'm a total newbie and I have some super-newb questions.
1. How many litres of oil does a VR-4 take? For dino, is GTX 10w40 ok?
2. Where do I buy a 1st Gen 3000GT oil filter in TO? Can I goto a Mitsu dealership or go to Dodge and get a Stealth filter?
Help appreciated!

Too bad you can't buy quarts here in Canada :)
My TT took 4.5L of syn. oil my last oil change :) (including filling the filter)
Good luck! It's a sinch! 30min and your done :)
It's more the filter I'm unsure about ... Shadow, did you get it from Dodge or Mitsu Canada?

Neither.. I went K&N..
However most people reccoment stock replacements from Dodge or Mitsu..
I never even bothered to see what Dodge wanted for the filter.. considering they wanted to charge me $60.00 for a fog lamp bulb!
The first oil change i got done (in the winter) I just had Mr. Lube do it.. and they used a K&N filter.. and my pressure was good with that, and never had a problem .. so that's what i used my last time.
Lots of people on 3si have different opinions of filters, from saying FRAM is the worst.. to swearing by OEM..
Any other members here have a take on this?
urgh ... I don't know if I wanna use anything other than OEM for a filter. My experience with FRAMs are that they're a filter case with cardboard inside. Crap crap. I've never seen K&N filters at Canadian Tire.
Anywho, I'll probly stop by Mitsu after work and see if they carry an OEM filter. If they don't wan't my kidney then I'll just buy it from them.

Chances are that the Mitsubishi price won't be too hard to take. I think it was under $8.00. Crappy Tire carries the K&N brand, but they're around $14-$15, so you're probably best off with OEM. Free is still too much to pay for a Scam, I mean Fram!

I got a stealth oil filter at Wallmart last year. :p
Actually i just went to MR. Lube today to change my oil and im pretty sure its 4.5 Litres.
I also got a can of 'Restore' engine treatment at CT and had them put it in. someone on 3SI recommended it to bring back some compression and lost power after 100k so i am going to see if i notice any difference. (the stuff was black and thick as honey)

Canadian Tire has all that you need. They usually stock at least 3 different filters that will fit your engine. K&N is supposedly the best.. and its around $15. Just buy a 4 litre bottle of synthetic, and you're good to go. I bought a 4 litre thing of CT synthetic tonight. Was on sale for $20. Better than paying over $50 for an oil change with synthetic at Mr Lube.
