Anyone know where one can obtain these tools (tensioner tool and end yoke holder) in Calgary?
Will any of the mitsu or dodge dealers rent them out?
Thanks,
B.
P.S.
According to the post by tbadiuk about Hyatt OEM prices in Calgary, I agree that the prices look very reasonable, except for maybe the timing belt tensioner, listed at $122. I see people on the 3si web site saying they paid $27 US for the tensioner- maybe they are referring to the pulley?? Maybe I'll call around to verify...
The Dodge dealer will be able to order one for you, that where I got mine.
They need to look in the shop manual and that where the tool is listed.

thanks
I will start calling around today for the tools.
I was just hoping that I wasn't going to have to pay an extra $100 (just a guess) for tools that I will only use once maybe twice.
c'est la vie.

Also, upon further searches on the net, I believe the people who claimed to pay ~$25 for the tensioner were mistaken, -average price looks like around $80 US, which would make the Hyatt price on par. They rock!
It was like $30 at the Dodge dealer.

That can't be from a Canadian Dodge dealer. They wanted that much for a replacement key!

$30 would be cool :)
I will try to call some dealers today, and will report my findings...

called crowfoot dodge-
parts person knew nothing about them.
service person said that only dealers can get them and that I'm SOL if I want to do it myself.
pretty much what I expected them to say.
What did all you Alberta guys do for the timing belt service?
any recommendations??
If you want, I can order the tools from my Dodge dealer and send it to you.

thanks fou- very much appreciated!
I might take you up on that if the snap-on quest doesn't turn out- see below.
I have found through some searching that snap-on carries the tensioner tool.
The snap-on part number for the tensioner is YA-9870 and costs about $30 CAN.
I will call snap-on today to see if I can get the tensioner and see if they have the end yoke holder tool.
Fou, can you please check with your Dodge dealer about the availability and cost of the end yoke holder tool and also the tensioner tool. If he can get them in fast and they are a reasonable cost, I might consider getting them through you instead.
Again, thanks very much for your help!
B.
I don’t get a special price and he needs to order the part true Snap-On.
$30:p

called local snap-on guys.
Nobody has it it stock and it's not at the warehouse- it's backordered or something.
One guy said he might be able to O/N courier one in from the east for $10 extra- think I'll take him up on it.
Thanks Fou for all your help!

I'm jumping in late here, but I don't think any of the Alberta boys have done their own timing belt replacement yet. Personally I've got another 70,000 km to go before I need to worry about mine.
You might be able to recoup some of the cost by renting it out to others when the time comes to do theirs.
Definitely let us know how you make out with the procedure. Depending when you plan on doing the work, I'd be happy to lend some assistance, (and gain some knowledge for when I have to do it myself) :D

Sounds good!
A number of the Alberta guys are trying to get together this weekend for a cruise to Sylvan Lake. Any chance we could interest you in going for a ride? You can check out the thread in the Alberta section.

did you buy the tools from them, and if so, do you remember what they cost?
thanks
does this tool have a mitsu part #?

quote from 3si web site:
You will also NEED two (2) tools from Mitsubishi. One of them is part number MD998752-01, the tensioner pulley socket wrench, and the other is part number MD990767-01, the end yoke holder.
I have heard that these part numbers are no longer valid, but I guess it wouldn't hurt for me to give Craig at Hyatt a call and he can check...

How did you make out with this braxton?

I ended up getting the tensioner tool from a local snap-on rep for $35.
It worked like a charm. Did my spark plugs, timing belt, water pump, all pulleys, and accessory belts last fall. Took the better part of a day to do it.

Glad everything went smoothly for you... I may need to change out my waterpump soon... it's started to drip a bit when i first start up my car... (it does stop however)
I have no idea weither the 60k service has been done at all to my car... ~130k now... so i'm thinkin I should do it anyways..
Would you be interested in helpin a fellow 3S dood out? I'd rather not get owned by the dealer... Perhaps we can work something out.
I would do it myself with a friend but i'm terrified I would mess up and have a bigger prob..

ShdwMastr,
I would be willing to help out, lend advice, lend tools, manuals etc. but I would feel uncomfortable working on someone else's Stealth. If I screw up something on my car, that's my problem and I can deal with it, but I'd hate to screw up something on someone else's car.
Before I did my service, I called Crowfoot Dodge and they wanted about $1,800 for all parts/labour to do everything I described previously (I think parts were about 1,100 and $700 was labour, if I remember correctly). I couldn't afford that so I went to Hyatt Mitsu, got all the parts for $500 bucks and did it myself (my wife helped a bit when it came to putting the timing belt in place). It was a fairly tough job, but if you're somewhat mechanically inclined and very careful, it's not too bad.
