Turns out the 35 page thread on 3SI actually got somewhere!
(BTW These are all from guys in Vancouver)

Nov. 27:

"Canadians...FYI. I just called Daimler Chrysler Canada. The recall was approved today in Canada!! Good news. It finally came through, on the VIN lookup at the dealer also.

Call Daimler Chrysler Canada. (recall B17) and they will tell you to call a local dealer so they can order parts...

Dailmer Chrysler Canada: 1-800-465-2001

edit:

talked to Daimler Chrysler Canada again. They said the recall has indeed been launched, and dealers will be receiving notification letters in the next few weeks, to advise them of repair instructions."

Nov. 28:
"Daimler Chrysler Canada wouldn't tell me, left me on hold for a long time, and then said that dealers will be notified of the repair instructions in about 2-3 weeks time.

However I called a dealer, and they said bring the car in Friday morning and we'll have a look at it to see what parts we need to order. I'll let y'all know how that goes.."

Nov.30:
"I just got a phonecall from DCC and setup the time for the installation of the TC.

They were awful nice, it was little scary all the sudden.

They said they are sending the new TC from the States, it takes about 2 weeks to send it to the Dealership.

They will also pay the bills regarding this problem they said..(tow bill...etc)

wow, how wonderful. Crazy.

Hey Mike, they are doing it. I am sure you get it, too. Nigel is not calling, but DC did.

I think if you go to a dealership now, they will get the news.

I will have to talk to the people at the dealership about my tranny, I wonder if they will replace that.. it is caused by the TC failure, but they may not fix it....

Jimbo"

Im going to stick my nose into a dealership on my way home tomorrow and see what happens...I'll keep it posted.

I was following that 3SI thread but I am not on line sometimes and I get lost when I get back online. Too much to catch up on!!

But is this a Canadian Recall that only affects Canadian Market Dodge Stealth's? Ore does it include all affected units... ahem... like American Market Mitsubishi's:D

On a side note I wonder If the New Mitsubishi Dealerships will be involved in any way for the Wanna-be:D "Canadian 3000GT's"

Called the Dodge dealer in Ottawa Monday, they told me that the recall just started and that I’ll need to wait until the dealer gets the information.

Went into the Dodge dealer near my house yesterday and checked on the recall. Its up and running now for anyone with leaking problems. The thing is, if you are not leakeing yet, DON'T DO IT! if you get checked out now, and they dont find a leak, they won't do squat. come next summer, when it does start to leak, they will tell you that the recall has already been performed on your car, so take a hike.

Jeez, gotta love that Mopar.

Anyone try a different dealer with any success?

I just got this in the mail as well... Any update from the dealer?
In addition, did any of you original owners get the same recall back in 1993?

I called the dealer yesterday and found out it is needed to be done on the stealth I am picking up.

I will drop it off once the bloody dealer decides to finish safetying the car.

I called the local Dodge dealer last week about a separate issue, and the lady told me about the recall and suggested that I bring the car in so that they can take care of it. Since it isn't leaking, I'm not gonna take it anywhere near the dealer until it does.

Hey all, just took my 93 Stealth RT/TT in for a check on the recall. (B17). Seems like they gotta order some parts from out east....

They didn't say about replacing the whole transfer case, but I think they are going to repair the seal....

I went to the dealership in Vancouver, BC on Marine Drive.

Now I dunno if this is good or bad....:) :( :) :(

Hey guys,

I need to send in my reciepts for my T.C. issues, I've found a copy of the US. recall notice for dodge....

Anyone have a copy of the Canadian recall? are they the same?

I need the address for reimbursement.

It's not leaking any more :) But had to be replaced, along with some transmission stuff... looking to get some money back.. it really set me back.

Keiichi
03-23-03, 03:40 PM
Well, got my stealth back from the dealer.

They didn't replace my Transfer Case, but they did repair the seal.

Fools, first they told me they had all the parts, but when I took my car in, they called me back and said they didn't have all the parts.....so I had to leave my car there till the shipment came...

that was like 1 week without my baby! ARGH!

Looks like they repaired the seal, and got some spacers and insulation....

I had quite the fight with Dodge trying ot get them to fix my car. It took 8 months and lots of complaints to them and to Transport Canada but they finally got things rolling and fixed my car. If your TC leaks they will only replace the seals unless there is damage to the gears. If the gears have damage or there is damage to the casting then they'll replace it. Keiichi, Why didn't you come to the meet last weekend? It was kinda good, 13 people got warning tickets on the way up to Whistler. hehe.. :)

Keiichi
04-15-03, 08:49 AM
Yeah, I kept procrastinating about posting to go to the meet. And I totally forgot about the day....

The night before the meet I stayed at my GF's place, and I didn't get up till like 11:00am

Then I go to the board and I'm like "DAMN IT".....bah...

LOL...that's sweet 13 stealths/3000GTs pulled over...hahaha
Maybe I shoulda been there to chat with the RCMP, since I work for the VPD....hahah

Ok I've got a bit of a question about this... Cuz my cousin
(Bad-Andy) had my car before he sold it to me. But he had to pay 8,000$ to replace everything(rebuilt from ground up)... So my question is what are the chances of him getting a reimboursament from dodge?

thanx in advance

Do they replace the existing T-case with the same kind or a new design

k let me get this straight, all i have to do is go to dodge and tell them to FIX MY DAM CAR NOW!!!! lol and they will do it for free, oh and after reading this page, i went and searched for more recals for our cars and found a list, so could i go there and get them to fix all those too for free or really how does this recal thing work.. plz help me im dumb lol:bigup:

Keiichi
04-29-04, 06:33 PM
Well you can take your car to a dealer and they will search their database for your VIN to determine if your car needs to be fixed. If so, they will take your car, determine what extent it needs to be fixed and do so free of charge

Fast Eddie
04-30-04, 09:19 AM
Yes, they are factory recalls, so they have to fix them for free cause they are covering thier own butts. If something happened that was thier fault, and you crashed and died, they would loose alot more money in court than they would if they just fixed the problem. (Well thats the way its supposed to work. See Edward Norton in Fight Club for a further analysis ;) )

Just go in and say i would like you to look up any recalls on my car. They will type in your VIN number from your ownership paper, and it will tell them which ones have been done, and which ones are outstanding.
But if your Transfer case isnt leaking, you shouldent do that recall yet. If they look at it, and its not leaking, they say "there is no problem" and then mark on the computer that the recall has already been performed. then next year when it DOES start to leak, they will say "you have to pay for it, cause the recall has already been done"

I thought you bought a non-turbo FWD car? If thats the case.. then I guarantee you don't have a leaking transfer case! Or any transfer case for that matter. ;) (only the AWD cars have a transfer case).

As far as I know getting it done for the Stealth is no problem. 3000GT's might be a little harder to get done, but should still be fine. Im fairly sure they will flat out refuse it on a GTO. Its hard for you to do anything since the documentation is probably in Japanese for the GTO's recall.

But its worth a try anywho, that is if you need it done.

Ok guys, has anyone had a recall done on their transfer case for a second time? My transfer case is leaking so I just went in and talked to the dealership to line up an appointment to get it sorted out and they told me that the recall was a one time thing and according to their records the recall has already been done on my car back in 2003 so they're not gonna do anything for me for free.

I know there have many people on 3SI that have had the recall done multiple times but I wanted to see if anyone in Canada has been able to have the recall redone? It's a pain in the ass to have to top up the TC every time I get an oil change (not by a lot, but enough that the fluid is not full).

I'm located in Edmonton, so if anybody has suggestions as to a specific Dodge Dealership that is more willing to help customers out that would be very useful as well (I was just at Derrick Dodge asking about the recall).

Thanks everyone.

Kyle

Not to reanimate old topics... but....

Has anyone on here ever successfully had the recall done on the GTO?

The guy who owned my GTO before me had reason to believe while explaining an issue to a dealer that it was a transfer case issue. However, every time I talk to a dealer or have gotten people to ask friends in dealers for me it's all coming up the same. The dealer won't do the recall on the JDM.

So I was just curious to know if anyone has gotten away with fixing the issue on a GTO or not and if so what tactics did you use!

I am not 100% sure if this is the issue with my GTO, btw. But if it is it would be awesome if it was a freeby fix, of course..

Any info on the GTO recalls would be appreciated. =)

I've heard similar stories in the U.S of dealers only wanting to do it once. Some have had problems getting dealers to do it more than once while others haven't. I've had a dealer tell me it was a one time thing, but haven't had a second leak to call them out on it. I don't believe they are allowed to refuse a second time as its a recall and a huge safety issue. The recall is supposed to permanently "fix" the problem with a new part or remedy so that it will never occur again, that's the law in basic terms. For such a huge safety issue with the potential of a TC lock up, the $50 seal kit should be the least of the dealer’s worries. If it happened to me, I would get in contact with individuals who have more authority at Dodge or Mitsubishi, such as the head office. If you get no where, I would file a complaint against the Canadian version of the NHTSA (might be the same?), or the NHTSA themselves and get the wheels in motion. The original recall only came into effect because of 3/S members reporting so many complaints to the NHTSA.

When I bought mine in 2005 the transfer case was leaking. I tried dealers in BC and Ontario and they all told me the recall had been done and they only do it once. So I ended up taking it to Fou (Marc).
