View Full Version : BBQ and 1/8th mile racing
OK, I was taking the Go Train today when I noticed a little flyer in the coffee shop. It appears that PACER (along with TSN, SportCompact TV, Global TV, Canadian Tire) is sponsoring a "street legal drag event" at Mosport raceway on Sunday September 14.
Cost is $20 and you get unlimited passes on their 1/8th mile track (perfect for us to OWN). There is also a show and shine for $15 or just spectators for $10. Tech in starts at 8, racing at 10am.
Now for those that don't know, Mosport is about 15 minutes north of Bownmanville (which is about 30 minutes east of Toronto). However, it is about 10 minutes from my house. So, I figure if anyone wants to come out to go racing/show in the morning/afternoon, and then come up to my place (well, my folks place) afterwards for a pint or two and some BBQ I would arrange it.
It would be BYOB, and if you have any special tastes for meat, bring it also. I have parking for a number of people, so no worries there.
Directions are simple. Just take the 401 east to the waverly road exit in Bownmanville (it goes Courtice Road, then Holt, then Waverly heading east). Waverly is also called durham 57. Take 57 north for about 15 minutes and you should see a few signs for Mosport. Mosport is on Regional Rd. 20 East. I am just north of there, a bit.
If anyone is interested let me know, mainly for numbers for my folks.

actually I'd like to make that trip out there for that, it's getting slower at work so time is easier to get, but unfortunatly I don't have the extra cash for dat stuff now!
BTW the 1/4 miletrack I go to here does not have a reading for 1/8 mile on the slips so I don't know how "we" do on them..... how do 3S's rune on the 1/8 ??
Mike
From what I have read on most slips we are mid-high 8's, low 9's stock at around 80mph (give or take a few mph).
But remember, we have the launch advantage and that is key on the 1/8th as the big power cars don't have much track to make it up on the top end. And FWD cars are normally horrible on that short a track.

I am totally in. Looking forward to doing something besides standing in a parking lot :)
My first time at the track, with a slipping clutch i ran 1/8-----8.710 @ 80.01. If i can get a new clutch in before then, i will run, if not, i guess im part of the pit crew, but im still coming :)

Yeah, that sounds good. 1/4 would be better, but our cars look better in the 1/8 for sure. AWD rocks the 1/8th...:D

Ookayyy.... I guess nobody want to get on the list...
Well anyway, Like i said i might not do any runs with my clutch so close to absolute failure, but i have a ringer taking my place. :)
The guy i go to Cayuga with, and came to some of the meets last year with his AWD 2.7L BiTurbo Audi S4. Ran a best of 13.4 on a pretty slippery track. He's still part of "Team AWD TT", so i figured he could tag along ;)

Alright, any news on whos coming tomorrow? What time does it open and all that? Are we going to meet at a certain place?
Did everyone forget about this?
I will be there, if anyone shows. I can't meet anyone on the way in, so if you come just meet me there.

This guy was renting out his viper. To advertise, he was doing Burnouts and donuts on the track.
Announcer said last guy that rented it blew the motor and it was $20,000 parts and $5,000 labour for a new 8L V10

The real cars come out to play :)
Dude you were there? Man, I can tell from the pics you were in the stand, I am sorry I didn't get to chat.
I left at 3, but I was there just after 10. That car in the pic is the 396 chevelle I beat. The guy was cool and the car is going to be mean if he ever does what he said he wants to do.

Tech ins. consisted you popping your hood so they could see if you had spray. Other then that, they didn't care. It was great.

No Barbie indy cart. I think it was the driving schools cars. Off in the background there was a parking lot with about 15 red camaros too, that they must use for the driving school.
I dont know about this tech inspection, but they are usually pretty simple. If it has four wheels it will pass. I saw a guy racing his K9 security van with a Rotweiller sitting shotgun, lots of hick rocker girlfriends, and a fast firebird with a 5 year old girl peeking out the window.
Tech inspection in Cayuga consisted of Billy-bob walking out of his little hut, writing "397" on my front and side window, then walking back to his hut with a smoke. Plus catalytics are not needed on private property, only public highways. ever see a top fuel dragster with cats?
