go back a page, huge update. this post is continuation.

subframe back on! this was also a HUGE bitch to do by myself. took two jacks and couple big pieces of wood. so much adjustment back and forth and up and down and balancing. highly recommend to do this with 2 people. you can also see the rear struts installed too.

gravity bleeding the brakes. went through 1L bottle so far and still haven't got all the air out.

left to do
-exhaust
-intake piping
-painting
-little things here and there like clutch adjustment, bleeding brakes, etc.

good progress man!
is that the ek2 tcase bracket? are you 18 or 25 spline?
this car definitely has 11 second potential!

it's a maximal stage 2. was looking for the ek2 one and never found it and nelsons bracket costs 3 times as this one.

my car is 18spline. with cast crank. and paper head gasket.
basically worse of the worse. first year of production for these cars

everything is against me but you can bet on it that i won't give up on 11's

Looks good! I should install one of these braces before too long. I'm shooting for 11's next year Although I may have to pull the transmission again, I noticed a leak last weekend before I left for Brazil. I'll look more closely at it when I get home.

Way to go Rez

We will be looking forward to seeing posts next year of your 11 second time slips. Did you weigh all that stuff that you removed?

thanks guys.

the total weight was about 35lbs - i did it more for simplification & driving feel - the weight savings was a nice bonus.

when mission opens again

finished bleeding the brakes & clutch, adjusted as well.

tip on bleeding - fill the res up to full, crack your lines so it starts gravity bleeding - you will see lots of bubbles - fill a bottle half way with brake fluid and submerge your bleed line into it, press the brake a couple times and it will be done. air gets purged out and fluid gets sucked back in. one man fast bleeding

finished installing intake piping etc. up front. started the car and drove it on stands a bit without exhaust or O2 hooked up. no leaks or vibrations

just gotta get my downpipe fixed AGAIN (stupid O2 bung location can't fit my wideband on) and i'll be good to go for clutch break in. heads up on the maximal tcase brace - the stock downpipe will not fit with it installed - the 3sx dp barely clears it when installing and touches one of the bolts as seen in my previous posts pics.

sideskirts will have to wait. splash shield i need to go plastic store and get some to mock something up.

car is on the ground

drove it to get some gas and noticed some things:
-this clutch is on/off, coupled with solid mounts makes for a very violent take off. i'm hoping i get used to it or adjust my driving style. it's either bog or launch lol..still trying to feel it out.
-getting some strong burning smells. for sure clutch but also there might be brake fluid, silicone, oil dripping, who knows. gonna let it sit and check for leaks on weekend. hoping the clutch smell goes away after couple hundred kms.
-will have to readjust pedal again, it's catching too high.
-full solid mounts feel great. i cant see my passengers liking the low idle rumble/shake though...
-fist gap wheels lol. suspension is nice and soft now. huge difference compared to stiff coilovers slammed.
-exhaust sounds nice as well. oem catback quieted down a lot.

changed oil and used a new filter i heard about over on 3sgto. k&n hp-2007
this thing is huge compared to oem. only thing that worries me is the gasket sits half on the lip and half off. hopefully it will be ok.

the 3sx downpipe...bad fitment. here you can see i had to cut the tranny stay bracket so the front would bolt to the precat.

just barely clearing the tcase brace

wideband bung welded in for a second time - thank god it fit this time.
notice how the flex pipe is being pulled down?

due to the angle of the downpipe&testpipe [bad fitment angles] the catback got pulled towards the driveshaft. look how close it is to the lobro joint. you can see in the second pic the exhaust hangers being stretched to the max. i wiggled everything with force to make sure nothing contacts. i hope the flex pipe lasts a while on the downpipe (lookin at you solid mounts).

so what's left other than those couple issues up top?
-paint & install the 2g sideskirts
-diy alignment
-fab a plastic splash shield for the front

Rez,

Hey man, remember when I offered my fab-shop services as you were so graciously donating those trans parts to me?

Well?

Feel free to cash in on the payback- we could hack up the DP & re-glue instead of screwing with everything else....& I'd be happy to help.

Just have to make the excruciatingly long (perhaps an hour) roadtrip out to the 'Wack-

Without full seat contact, I would be be real concerned that would promote the seal to squeeze out- I went with the K&N 4001, approx. same dia. as stock, full oring contact, but waaay longer.

thanks dude! i should have contacted you before hand oh well, what's done is done and no issues so far. but i will for sure call you if i need some help.

by the way your engine bay looks fucking awesome! i'm jealous.

i will probably go back to my previous filter (which has full seal seat contact as you mentioned), just wanted to test this one out.

and an update on the car,
drove about 200km so far and the burning smell was just the silicone i used on the exhaust. there are 1 or 2 minor oil leaks but they are not of concern right now. I'm also getting used to the clutch, no complaints from passengers so just waiting it out. maybe another 100km easy, then do some launches 6psi, then let 'er rip. the turbos sounds loud as hell now that the exhaust is quiet but my lifter tick also sounds like ass

good progress!

i was also looking into oil filters recently. i was planning to try the kn-1005... i will look into the kn-2007 (if it doesnt leak!). i have been using the standard kn-1004 up to this point.

... and OT but Primus101, your car is immaculate

the 1005 is a no brainer, the 2007...we will see lol

the post where i found out about these larger filters, a great read:
http://www.3sgto.org/3000gt-stealth-...cation-13.html

edit: just did some calculations based off the measured numbers given on post #121, the 2007 has about 8.5mm of gasket contacting the filter housing all around compared to 9mm on the 1004&5. looks like i'll be good to go.
i will go back to the 1005 on next change since the 2007 only holds 100ml more.
