thats exaclty what i plan on doing, ive taken the mbc(bleed type) out and doing wastegate boost now. i need to get another mbc(ball&spring type) to turn it up to ~14psi so i can get a good load going then retune.

here is the log from my final pass. ignore the launch i think i hesitated and bogged it really bad. 3rd gear starts at the bottom. this is after i made some adjustments to tune the knock down. tima & idc are actual values.

a nice update with pics, cause everybody likes pics more than reading lol

since the last time i posted, i installed emanage blue with full boomslang harness (yay for timing control) and a new turbosmart mbc. the mbc is nice, spikes a little cause of the length of hoses. emb has a 16x16 map on both afr and timing, which is VERY nice instead of the 2x8 map of the safc1. i also got a subinj map, a accel map and couple other features that i dont need.
the emb now sits with my lc1 controller and gm map sensor behind the ecu hidden away

there is no more room back there hahah you can see the vac for the gm map and its wiring.
this is what the passenger side looks like.

my netbook is usually there with me if i dont have a passenger. the three cables are datalogger, wideband, and emb. the big black loom is the boomslang harness for the emb which is sitting under the seat

i also hooked up the lc1 wb02 output to the scanmaster so i see it live right infront of me along with knock and boost

i banged out a couple tunes with the stock mas and gutted mas at various afr's and boost. i had to pull a crazy amount of timing to get decent afr's. started with low 10s afr, then a flat 10.5, then 11, then 11.5 all pure pump. did a couple meth pulls as well. anyways, the car still did not feel any faster than when i dynod it at 330/330, felt the same. i took it on the dyno again for shits and giggles and it put out 230awhp/240awtq, pathetic lol. this was with 15psi, 11.5 afr flat, timing pulled everywhere to run that afr, pump 94 gas no meth gutted mas. if i richen it up back to low 10s i can run more timing and get back up to my original power. i have a funny feeling that this is all this engine has got, maybe around 300whp is its limit (350-60 dynojet).

so that brings us to today.

i finally said fuck it with this experimenting and went for the final setup.
installed pte 550cc injectors,

and put my gm maf+maft system back in to give it one last try.
put new plugs in while i was there. cleaned up the vacuum routing and some wiring routing here and there to make the engine bay nicer. i also jumped both fans to come on together now. havent got a chance to start it up yet, will be messing with it tomorrow. i want to do one pump at 11:1&17psi and one pump+meth at 12:1&20psi hopefully without having to pull any timing.
im very tempted to run a flat 12 afr like dynamic racing does just to see what happens (boom lol). pampena usually does high 10s or low 11s on pump around 17psi and no timing control.
if i remember, our own Eric had something like 12.5afr with his meth.

everything is either going to magically work
or
same/worse results then before = put the car back to stock hmmm or maybe 15psi pump gas tune and remove the meth. set it, forget it and move on with life.

oh and couple people asked how i gutted my mas:

side and bottom screens removed, screw backed out to flush.
i have no troubles tuning it like this. lets much more air in and a better tune up top. and turbos/bov sound louder too.

so before, stock mas, 450cc, bad wiring&vac routing

and after, maf, 550cc, wiring&vac cleaned up

i like how it looks like a stock car. wish me luck.

for tips on tuning skip past the dashed line.

couldnt take the slow (stock)acceleration anymore so i said fuck it and turned the meth on and retuned. did a quick tune and set it for a flat 10.5 across the board at 17psi for now as a safe tune. was getting like 20deg timing from 3-45rpm then 26 from 5-7rpm so i setup the timing to match the factory timing maps. the car hauls again. i mean it hauls clean. no ups and downs, no hiccups, no weird sounds, no sound of struggle or surge of power, just a clean knock free pull. like the engine is happy.

on one of my runs i stepped outside to feel my sidemounts and they were heat soaked to oblivion! im talking i couldnt leave my hand on either of them for more then a couple seconds. and then lightbulbs starting going off in my head.

-my intake temp must be horrible, not helping with power.
-the meth is substituting for a intercooler, its not even raising my octane that much (at most to a total of maybe 96 octane). my calculations backed this up when i got home.
-funny how with meth turned on, factory afr, factory tima, engine is happy = ~96octane. jdm ecu mapped for 96, how peculiar.
-i have less weight, more than 300lbs less than stock. this means less load. means more timing advance. jdm ecu doesnt help with this either making it worse. 550cc's not helping this either (im at 70% idc). no problem i got timing control now.
-my rear ic pipe has a nice layer of oil on it -> blowby from valve covers. i would think my vss arent doing too great either. oil in ic's, oil/blowby in chambers. not good.
-my headgasket is the early paper one. with the way ive been beating and experimenting on this car, there is no way its holding up good. i can bet my heads have warped (if they already didnt have casting flaws to begin with) during this whole ordeal. not good.

so really even with my meth, im still only at pump gas. all my findings point to this. if i run straight pump its like running regular gas.

i really do think at this point, 330-360whp is the limit of this engine. for now ive left it at this safe tune. im contemplating on what i should do now.
keep pushing it? i want to get some racegas in there and pull the wastegates
leave it as is till it blows?
return it to stock?
put the 4bolt in and continue modding?
the car really needs a paint job too, was thinking of plastidipping the whole thing.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

heres a snippet of my last run
RPM-AFR-TIMA-ActualTIMA
3000 10.5 20 14
3500 10.5 19 10
4000 10.5 19 12
4500 10.5 17 12

so even with the meth on, i tuned it like pump gas with cast crank. actually, i copied pampenas 13g tune on keyans car exactly lol (pump, 17psi, cast crank).

the TIMA in some spots is way too excessive and gets no additional power. for ex. at 3000rpm, 22deg and 12.0afr got me no more power than 14deg and 11.5afr. in these situations its best to set an ideal afr, factory timing, and raise the boost higher. always better to be safe. tuning to a nicer 11.5 across the board i had to pull so much timing i made way less power, so richer with more timing for my engine is the way to go.

some tips with meth i found with experience
-50/50 is the perfect mixture for octane and cooling
-place the nozzle so it faces directly at the TB
-put filters on the vac nipples, moisture killed my evc solenoid
-spraying 630cc 50/50 brought down my afr almost exactly 1afr point both on 450s and on 550s
-prime the system before your first full pull
-set the boost switch a psi or 2 below when you want it to start spraying

i think at this point im talking to myself hahaha, oh well, its a nice log to keep of my cars history.

even the outlet side?
i know with my ic the inlet side can be burning hot but the outlet will be cold so just because it feels hot doesnt mean it isnt working
do you have any way to measure iat into the engine?

if you bump down your rail pressure you can get your idc up closer to stock for less timing correction

catchcan? do you have stock vc routing? looks like the front still goes to the lower plenum from the pics

you arent loosing coolant or anything though are you?

were you on a dyno? now that your afr is nailed down, how you tried adding some timing back? there should be power there.

fwiw i think that this thread is great. many people dont really know what is required when going beyond bpu.

sounds like youve been able to get a pretty good tune on it for now though. do you get knock above 17psi with this current setup or is that just as far as youve gone so far?

thats great guys, ill keep the technical posts up then.

Surreal,
-the smic were even hot on the outlets, all the way to the ypipe. i went to town on all the piping feeling her up like she came in for a physical.

-i currently do not have an iat in the manifold. ill see if i can use my themostat next time after a pull.

-i dont have an afpr, the fuel pressure is what it is. i have no problem with it. as far as the idcs, its not an issue since i have timing control gotta love the emanage.

-ive been thinking about installing a catch can lately and doing my own pcv routing. pcv system is stock now.

-i did not check my coolant level before doing pulls, i will be keeping my eye on it now. it has turned more brown though. going to flush the system out and see if it does it again.

-i do add timing back once i have a nice afr curve, but keeping it at factory levels. it does add noticeable power. i noticed on the dyno 1psi ~=10whp, and 1deg ~=20whp. matt m. likes to run alot more timing then factory but im keeping a safe tune for now.

-no knock on my current tune at 17psi, i havent tried turning it up yet. i want to play at this pressure to max out the engine efficiency (400whp+).

well ive put up my car for sale on our local craigslist cause she has been pissing me off lately.

i got her through our local emissions testing on a recircd bov and maft setup with stock full exhaust and on the way home noticed i couldnt boost past 11psi. tested wastegates, turbos for shaft play, pressure tested, then swapped my exhaust and ssqv back in and she was fine until...
one of the viton orings burst on the #3 cyl spewing fuel everywhere, luckly i caught this during warmup at a friends house. left it there and replaced it the next night where i dropped one of the insulators so i had to use a spacer...sigh... need to get gaskets, plugs, and insulators now and do a maintenance job.
and doing my regular leak test today i found out my bubble plug had gone missing and a huge rip in the rear turbo intake pipe...fuk sakes. im guessing it ripped when i went to check the rear turbo for shaft play and didnt notice.
put the dsm bov back in recirc and put the stock gutted mas back in. tried to tape up the rear intake temporarily but it didnt help at all. have to order intake pipes now

Sorry to hear of all the troubles Rez. No one ever said hot rods were easy to live with. Why not put it back to stock, sell all that aftermarket stuff and use it to finance a new paint job and you will be back in love again before you know it. It is not like these cars are not fast with the stock setup.

yea its definitely a love-hate relationship. ive calmed down now and would just like to point out that both those problems were my fault - not using oem orings and being too aggressive with the piping.

93TT, honestly i cant see myself ever paying for paint. i just dont have it in me to spend that much on paint when it could go to more go fast goodies. i will DIY paint it again so its at least presentable when i get the time sometime this summer.

im still looking for intake pipes if anyone has em, all my gasket stuff came in today.

some good news after that fiasco.
drove down to olympia and bought a seibon hood off of adamvr4 of nw3s and here is a picture of it from the meet

small on purpose so i dont get shit about my paint lol, taped up the hood and bumper on my drive back got into shit at the border lol. installed hood pins when i got home.

then my inj seal came in and swapped that out.
did a compression test same time and got 155-165 cold all around so ran a can of seafoam through it. checked up on plug gaps&conditions all good.
installed a stealthy catch can where the abs pump used to be.
put the maft back in and just reloaded my tune. i love emanage, save unlimited maps and just load and go when you change something. getting really tempted to go ultimate for the speed density.
taped up the intake pipe for now until the pipes i bought from dage come in, seems to be holding so far.
bought a mini fire extinguisher and put in the back just in case.
trying a k&n hp1004 oil filter this time around. interestingly it is smaller than the mopar one i run usually. i will try 1005 next time. running 1L 20w50 and rest 10w40 now.

tl;dr bought hood, fixed things, time to kick ass

How much lighter is the hood? And how easy was the abs delete to do?

no idea on the weight, but its MUCH lighter. ill know next time i go get weighed.

abs delete was pretty straight forward. used parts from a parts car and did it while my rear turbo was out.
